{"id":122897,"date":"2024-11-07T00:51:55","date_gmt":"2024-11-06T17:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=122897"},"modified":"2024-11-07T00:51:55","modified_gmt":"2024-11-06T17:51:55","slug":"europe-could-be-a-casualty-as-donald-trump-wins-u-s-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=122897","title":{"rendered":"Europe could be a casualty as Donald Trump wins U.S. election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>Republican candidate Donald Trump has won the U.S. election for the second time, snatching <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/11\/05\/us-president-election-result-trump-harris\/\" target=\"_self\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/11\/05\/us-president-election-result-trump-harris\/\" rel=\"noopener\">key battleground states<\/a> from Kamala Harris\u2019s clutches.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>As Trump 2.0 becomes a reality, Europe is poised to enter a new geopolitical and trade quagmire with its biggest trading partner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new U.S. president has promised to make his potential term in office the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/trump-vows-lead-golden-age-america-victory-speech-fix-everything\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/trump-vows-lead-golden-age-america-victory-speech-fix-everything\" rel=\"noopener\">golden age<\/a> of America.\u201d That\u2019s a loaded statement\u2014especially for countries in Europe that rely on U.S. trade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What will Trump do?<\/h2>\n<p>Trump has repeatedly teased hiking trade tariffs by 10% to 20% (which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/livecoverage\/harris-trump-election-10-16-2024\/card\/trump-calls-tariffs-the-most-beautiful-word--YMVPAupw4EjBRp6yobOy\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/livecoverage\/harris-trump-election-10-16-2024\/card\/trump-calls-tariffs-the-most-beautiful-word--YMVPAupw4EjBRp6yobOy\" rel=\"noopener\">he touts<\/a> as the \u201cmost beautiful word\u201d) to protect America\u2019s domestic manufacturing industry. But that will make European goods more expensive and less appealing to American buyers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During his first term in office, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2018\/03\/02\/trump-steel-aluminum-tariff-industries\/\" target=\"_self\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2018\/03\/02\/trump-steel-aluminum-tariff-industries\/\" rel=\"noopener\">imposed tariffs<\/a> on European aluminum and steel. While President Joe Biden subsequently suspended the tariffs, they haven\u2019t been scrapped yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tariffs are just the tip of the iceberg. Trump has spoken about jacking up tariffs on China by up to 60%\u2014a measure that the European Union has recently resorted to in the <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/europe\/2024\/10\/04\/eu-massive-tariffs-chinese-evs-europe-carmakers\/\" target=\"_self\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/europe\/2024\/10\/04\/eu-massive-tariffs-chinese-evs-europe-carmakers\/\" rel=\"noopener\">electric vehicle industry<\/a> to limit cheap Chinese vehicles flooding its market.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But if the U.S. follows through with its hefty levies on China, it could prompt a full-fledged trade war.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn his first term, Trump was obsessed with the U.S. trade deficit with the EU. In his view, this is no different (other than being smaller) to the U.S. concerns about its trade deficit with China,\u201d Zach Meyers, assistant director of the Center for European Reform, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/europe\/2024\/11\/03\/u-s-election-result-trump-harris-europe\/\" target=\"_self\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/europe\/2024\/11\/03\/u-s-election-result-trump-harris-europe\/\" rel=\"noopener\">told <em>Fortune<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/ustr.gov\/countries-regions\/china-mongolia-taiwan\/peoples-republic-china#:~:text=China%20Trade%20%26%20Investment%20Summary&amp;text=Exports%20were%20%24195.5%20billion%3B%20imports,up%2039%20percent%20from%202012.\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/ustr.gov\/countries-regions\/china-mongolia-taiwan\/peoples-republic-china#:~:text=China%20Trade%20%26%20Investment%20Summary&amp;text=Exports%20were%20%24195.5%20billion%3B%20imports,up%2039%20percent%20from%202012.\" rel=\"noopener\">trade deficit<\/a> with China was $367.4 billion, while with the EU, it was $131.3 billion. Tariffs could hit Germany, Europe\u2019s biggest economy and an automotive trading hub, especially hard, with its GDP sliding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/europe\/trump-presidency-could-deal-heavy-blow-germanys-flagging-economy-2024-10-24\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/europe\/trump-presidency-could-deal-heavy-blow-germanys-flagging-economy-2024-10-24\/\" rel=\"noopener\">as much as 1.3%<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the U.S. applies more tariffs on China, that risks a larger volume of Chinese exports being dumped in Europe. In turn, that could force the EU to follow the U.S. in increasing tariffs in order to protect European industry, raising the risks of an all-out trade war with China,\u201d said Meyers.<\/p>\n<p>Under a Trump-led America, Europe\u2019s focus should be to strike a good deal that exempts its goods from being charged.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s easier said than done, Meyers points out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump sympathizers like Viktor Orb\u00e1n in Hungary and Giorgia Meloni in Italy will break ranks and secure deals for their own countries, leaving the rest of the EU out in the cold.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Will Trump embolden right-wing Europe?<\/h2>\n<p>The pro-Trump club and its right-ward push is yet another cause for concern in Europe. Recent elections in the region have already shown the growing power of right-wing leaders, including in The Netherlands and Hungary.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The likes of Orb\u00e1n, who posted on Facebook <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/story.php?story_fbid=1111651546999109&amp;id=100044628210344&amp;mibextid=WC7FNe&amp;rdid=j50AR2D7ejtXr9e1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/story.php?story_fbid=1111651546999109&amp;id=100044628210344&amp;mibextid=WC7FNe&amp;rdid=j50AR2D7ejtXr9e1\" rel=\"noopener\">on Wednesday<\/a> celebrating Trump\u2019s \u201croad to a beautiful victory,\u201d have supported the Republican candidate and have taken a page from his book on foreign affairs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump becoming America\u2019s president could make \u201cright political forces feel emboldened,\u201d Steven Blockmans, an associate senior research fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies, told <em>Fortune<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ll feel strengthened. They will have more appeal, I suppose. There are very strong streaks of autocracy in Trump\u2019s approach,\u201d Blockmans said, cautioning that other factors also influence the popularity of Europe\u2019s political figureheads beyond the influence from across the Atlantic.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>How Trump addresses the Russia-Ukraine war could also add to Europe\u2019s litany of problems.
