The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic \u201cMichael\u201d from director Antoine Fuqua was originally set for the April 18 slot, tying up IMAX and premium large format screens, but was pushed to Oct. 3 by Lionsgate earlier this week, prompting Warner Bros. to make the switch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWhen the April 18 date became available, we quickly moved to secure it for \u2018Mickey 17,&#8217;\u201d a Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019re thrilled with the new date, and very happy the film will be available to audiences in IMAX.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMoving into the vacant \u201cMickey 17\u201d January slot is Warner Bros. and New Line\u2019s \u201cCompanion,\u201d previously dated three weeks earlier for Jan. 10. \u201cWith January 31 now available with a full IMAX footprint, we are also very happy to have\u00a0\u2018Companion\u2019\u00a0releasing on this new date,\u201d the Warner Bros. spokesperson added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis isn\u2019t the first time \u201cMickey 17\u201d has been pushed back, as it was <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/news\/bong-joon-ho-robert-pattinson-mickey-17-2025-release-date-1235917744\/\">originally dated<\/a> for March 29, 2024. Sources told\u00a0<em>Variety<\/em>\u00a0that the first shift to 2025 was to allow more time to finish the project, which had been affected due to last year\u2019s strikes and other various production shifts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tStudio sources say the April date change, however, was as a vote of confidence in director Bong following positive response to <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/trailers\/mickey-17-trailer-robert-pattinson-bong-joon-ho-1235685189\/\">the film\u2019s first trailer,<\/a> released in September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBased on the 2022 novel \u201cMickey7\u201d by Edward Ashton, the sci-fi thriller stars Pattinson an \u201cexpendable\u201d employee named Mickey Barnes. In the novel, Mickey is sent on dangerous missions to colonize an ice planet. When one version of Mickey dies, a duplicate is created to replace him that retains most of his memories.
