The host of CBS\u2019 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/after-midnight\/\" id=\"auto-tag_after-midnight\" data-tag=\"after-midnight\">After Midnight<\/a>\u201d (who had added an opening monologue to her show at the start of its second season), Tomlinson darkly joked that \u201cit is an honor to be on television while women are still allowed to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn her opening, Tomlinson also shared some of her coping mechanisms in the hours following the re-election of Donald Trump to a second term, including re-watching \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d to try and remind herself of a better time, circa 2011.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cRemember 2011, back when Joe Rogan wasn\u2019t helping people decide elections,\u201d she said. \u201cHe was just helping people decide if they were gonna eat bugs for money. Remember that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTomlinson also noted that Trump\u2019s return is a sign that reboots are terrible \u2014 and she said that as the host of one. (\u201cAfter Midnight\u201d is a remake of \u201c@midnight\u201d from Comedy Central.) Said Tomlinson: \u201cWhy does he have to be president? First off, elephant in the room, I am sorry if it\u2019s your birthday today. That sucks. A lot of people today feel shell shocked and depressed and can\u2019t believe they have to go to work. Me too. That\u2019s what\u2019s going on here. But I will say it is an honor to be on television while women are still allowed to be. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cHow did everyone sleep last night? I mean, seriously, which sedatives did you take? I personally took a sleeping pill and then ate a family sized bag of jelly beans. And then, I\u2019m not kidding. I started re watching \u2018Game of Thrones\u2019 to calm down. I was like, Maybe this will give me some perspective. Just desperately trying to get myself back to 2011. Remember 2011, back when Joe Rogan wasn\u2019t helping people decide elections. He was just helping people decide if they were gonna eat bugs for money. I personally couldn\u2019t look away from the news, but some people were able to keep busy. You know how when you\u2019re on an airplane and there\u2019s turbulence, you look to the flight attendants to see if they\u2019re scared, or if they\u2019re just like, chilling on their phones, getting shaken up a little bit? Looking at these news anchors was like, \u2018Oh, great, we\u2019re crash landing in hell. Cool, awesome.\u2019 And then I switched over to Fox News to see what the tone was like over there, and they were all just lighting fireworks and kissing each other on the mouth with tongue. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cSo it was a huge night for Republicans. They also took the Senate, and a lot of the news media is asking if a Republican Senate will keep Trump in check, which feels like asking the getaway driver of a bank robbery, \u2018so you\u2019re gonna make sure they spend the money wisely, right? You\u2019re gonna save half for taxes and donate to sustainable charities, right?\u2019 <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cA lot of people want solutions, so they\u2019re posting today about what we can do to move forward, and I think that\u2019s valuable. But also, let\u2019s take a fucking second to be sad.
