It was a terrible night for poor people, for the middle class, for seniors who rely on Social Security, for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO and democracy and decency. And it was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him. And guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him too. You just don\u2019t realize it yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOn the flip side, \u201cit was a really good night for Putin and for polio and for lovable billionaires like Elon Musk, and the bros up in Silicon Valley, and all the wriggling brain worms who sold what was left of their souls to bow down to Donald Trump,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tKimmel noted that the choice for president came down to a prosecutor and a criminal, \u201cand we chose the criminal to be President of the United States. More than half of this country voted for the criminal who is planning to pardon himself for his crimes. I guess this election wasn\u2019t rigged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAnd yet, he noted that Trump had pre-emptively declared that this election was going to be rigged. \u201cIsn\u2019t it remarkable that this time, the fix wasn\u2019t in? Last time the Democrats cheated, this time we chose not to, I guess?\u201d Kimmel said. \u201cI don\u2019t know. Now this Donald Trump, he\u2019s like the Emperor from \u2018Star Wars.\u2019 He\u2019s old, he\u2019s evil, and he keeps coming back with no reasonable explanation whatsoever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tKimmel had been very vocal in his support of Kamala Harris and in warning viewers against voting for Trump \u2014 even airing a <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/tv\/news\/jimmy-kimmel-urges-republicans-not-vote-donald-trump-1236194616\/\">special monologue<\/a> he had crafted for Republican voters to watch. \u201cBe honest, last week, did you guys send that monologue to a Republican like I asked you?\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tKimmel commended Harris for gracefully conceding her loss in the election, something Trump refused to do in 2020. \u201cIn America, there\u2019s an election, and then they count the votes, and if the Democrat loses, they call to congratulate the winner,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cYou know what I\u2019m going to say, something that Trump would never say unless it favored him: The people voted, and this is the choice we made,\u201d Kimmel added. \u201cIn January. Donald Trump becomes president, and that\u2019s that he won. Doesn\u2019t mean we give up, but it also doesn\u2019t mean we storm the Capitol because we don\u2019t like the result.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tKimmel said it\u2019s been hard to find any silver lining in what has happened, but he hopes maybe once Trump fails to deliver on his promises, people may finally see through his ways. \u201cWe\u2019ve been through this once before, and yes, this time, it is probably going to be worse, maybe a lot worse,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I also think that maybe we will look back and realize that in the long run, this is what we needed to wake us up. Maybe the people who care so much about him need to find out how little he cares about them. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cAll the promises he makes about stopping wars and imposing tariffs, how he\u2019s going to crush inflation and cut taxes \u2014 now he has to do this stuff, and I hope he does. I really do,\u201d Kimmel added. \u201cI hope his next unpredictable act is to reach across the aisle and do something positive. The bar is low. He has an opportunity to win us over. I\u2019m still trying to figure out what happened. Be honest, last week did you guys send that monologue to a Republican like I asked you to? Those of you who are hate-watching this show right now wanting to watch me suffer \u2013 you will be happy to know that there was no joy in Mudville last night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tI was all over the place \u2013 one minute, I\u2019m watching these long lines in every city and I\u2019d think \u201coh that\u2019s beautiful \u2013 democracy in action\u201d \u2013 next minute, there\u2019s a reporter chatting with some bro at Arizona State who said he voted for Trump because Kamala didn\u2019t go on Joe Rogan\u2019s podcast. And I\u2019m like \u201cWhere did I leave my passport?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMy kids were very upset. Every once in a while, when something bad happens \u2013 we let our kids curse for 30 seconds. We tell them they have 30 seconds to say any word they want and all the words they choose are curses. So at breakfast this morning, my wife tells our daughter Jane \u2013 who\u2019s upset, she said, \u201cyou know you can do it.\u201d And just as she starts the cursing, our seven-year-old Billy comes down the stairs. He\u2019s wearing a black Adidas tracksuit, and high tops and a pair of Ray-Bans \u2013 he looks like the fourth member of Run DMC \u2013 and he just hears the tail end, he says, \u201cwhat\u2019s going on?\u201d And my wife says, \u201cwell Donald Trump won\u201d and he goes, \u201cfuck!\u201d I have to say, it almost made losing the election worth it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tI got a lot of texts yesterday all day and night \u2013 from anxious friends and family \u2013 and coworkers \u2013 and I have to say a lot of them involved diarrhea. Diarrhea was at an all-time high in America yesterday. Which made me wonder, what is it about me that makes others so comfortable sharing that information? Like I\u2019m Princess Diarrhea or something here!<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPresident Biden watched the action from the White House last night. He was squinting at the TV and trying to change the channel with an old calculator he thinks is a remote, but I was thinking about him. It must have been weird for him to watch that. It was supposed to be him on the ballot. It\u2019s like that movie \u201cFinal Destination\u201d where the guy has a premonition and gets off his flight and then watches from the gate as the plane, he was supposed to be on, explodes? It was like that but with diarrhea.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPresident Biden called Donald Trump today to congratulate him and to invite him to the White House to discuss the transition \u2013 and maybe watch a little \u201cMatlock,\u201d starring Kathy Bates. Kamala Harris called Trump today too. She conceded \u2013 and then explained what the word \u201cconceded\u201d means. Trump said, \u201cthat means you\u2019re stuck up, right? Conceited?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAnd she did it because that\u2019s how it\u2019s supposed to be done in America. There\u2019s an election, and then they count the votes, and if the Democrat loses, they call to congratulate the winner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHarris also gave a concession speech at her alma-mater, Howard University. She said \u201cit\u2019s gonna be OK. The light of America\u2019s promise will always burn bright.\u201d And she\u2019s right. You know, the reason America is the greatest country in the world is that even a simple garbageman and fry cook from McDonalds  can one day be President of the United States two different times. I think that\u2019s inspiring.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPoor  Tim Walz right now is in his backyard, playing a very solemn game of cornhole by himself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn Nevada they had a problem with ballots from thousands of young voters whose signatures didn\u2019t match the ballot because they don\u2019t know how to sign their names. Well, they did tell us not to give our kids iPads and we didn\u2019t listen! But at least they tried. I do want to say thank you to everyone who voted \u2013 even if you just did it to get a bottle of water from Paul Rudd, thank you for voting. And it\u2019s very important if you\u2019re in line \u2013 stay in line! Do not leave the line!<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOverall, the voting itself went relatively smoothly, despite a number of bomb threats that were called and emailed into heavily democratic precincts in Georgia, Arizona, and Michigan. Authorities say they seem to have originated in Russia. You can tell the Russians are running out of ideas when they\u2019re trying to disrupt our elections now using the same tricks kids in the 80s used to get out of P.E.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut the rest was not great. Let\u2019s be honest, it was a terrible night last night.
