Viewers will also want to be in areas with as little light pollution as possible and clear skies.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">How Can You Photograph The Lights?<\/h2>\n<p>The night mode feature on most smartphones should be used when trying to photograph the aurora. Low shutter speeds and wide apertures will also give viewers a better chance at getting a good photo.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">Key Background<\/h2>\n<p>Chances to view the northern lights have remained relatively consistent in the last few months, as NASA announced in October the sun reached a <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/science-research\/heliophysics\/nasa-noaa-sun-reaches-maximum-phase-in-11-year-solar-cycle\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"color-link\" title=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/science-research\/heliophysics\/nasa-noaa-sun-reaches-maximum-phase-in-11-year-solar-cycle\/\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/science-research\/heliophysics\/nasa-noaa-sun-reaches-maximum-phase-in-11-year-solar-cycle\/\" aria-label=\"solar maximum period\">solar maximum period<\/a>.
