These averages are based on the ERA5 dataset, which uses billions of measurements taken by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/spaceflight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spacecraft<\/a>, ships, aircraft and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">weather<\/a> stations around the world.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">For the past 10 months, the average global <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-forecast\/current-temperature-map\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">temperature<\/a> anomaly has been 0.71 degrees Celsius (1.28 degrees Fahrenheit) above the 30-year average, the highest on record for this period.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Copernicus\u00a0said October virtually seals the deal that 2024 will be the warmest on record. After experiencing the warmest January, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/2024-chance-hottest-year-record-noaa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NOAA said there was a 99% chance<\/a> 2024 would once again hit the hot milestone like 2023. This year also broke 2023&#8217;s hottest day on record when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/earth-hottest-day-copernicus-climate-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">average planetary temperature reached 17.15 degrees Celsius<\/a> (62.87 degrees Fahrenheit) on July 22.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The Copernicus Climate Change Service noted above-average temperatures across most of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Europe<\/a> and northern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/canada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canada<\/a> and well-above-average temperatures over the central and western <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/us-regions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S.<\/a>, northern Tibet, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/asia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Japan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/australia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australia<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Copernicus also monitors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/ocean-heat-wave-record-atlantic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sea-surface temperatures<\/a>, which remain &#8220;unusually high over many regions,&#8221; according to the climate group.
