Disney has also cancelled several films in that time, such as <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/star-wars-film-from-marvel-studios-boss-definitely-isnt-happening\">one from Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege<\/a> and <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/2019\/10\/29\/benioff-and-weiss-star-wars-movies-not-moving-forward-game-of-thrones\">another trilogy from Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. With these 11 films not enough, Disney is now working with Kinberg on this new trilogy.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">&#8220;I can&#8217;t wait to hear nothing else about this project for two years, until we get the big exciting update that Kinberg has left and Lucasfilm is searching for a new writer,&#8221; said obert-wan-kenobert on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/StarWars\/comments\/1glv3zp\/star_wars_trilogy_deal_lucasfilm_taps_simon\/\" class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reddit<\/a> post discussing the trilogy.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">&#8220;Here we go again,&#8221; said another user. &#8220;So, how long do we want to bet before this trilogy is canned as well?&#8221; asked another.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/StarWars\/comments\/1gmdp7r\/based_on_how_notorious_star_wars_is_with\/\" class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">post<\/a> outlined the 14 apparently incoming films. &#8220;I&#8217;m really looking forward to Untitled Star Wars Project, but I wouldn&#8217;t mind if Untitled Star Wars Project doesn&#8217;t end up happening,&#8221; said laserbrained. &#8220;It\u2019s really hard for me to take any of these announcements seriously when we have had absolutely zero traction on any rumored movies,&#8221; ididshave said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/StarWarsLeaks\/comments\/1glv78v\/trilogy_deal_lucasfilm_taps_simon_kinberg_to\/\" class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">another<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">The Mandalorian &amp; Grogu film is the only one definitely happening, as Disney actually <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/the-mandalorian-grogu-first-footage-revealed-including-what-might-be-hoth-d23-2024\">released footage at this year&#8217;s D23 event<\/a> and even <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/jon-favreau-to-direct-new-star-wars-movie-the-mandalorian-grogu\">gave it a release date<\/a>, though fans believe <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/dave-filoni-star-wars-movie-announced-at-celebration-new-sequel-movie-confirmed\">the three movies announced at 2023&#8217;s Star Wars Celebration<\/a> are also likely candidates.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">This includes the next most talked about filmed, the Episode 9 sequel starring Ridley as Rey Skywalker <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/daisy-ridley-says-next-star-wars-film-will-take-franchise-in-a-different-direction\">rebuilding the Jedi Order 15 years later<\/a>. It appeared to be making steady progress, with Ridley and director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy commenting on it semi-regularly, but it reportedly lost its screenwriter in October as <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/daisy-ridley-star-wars-film-reportedly-loses-writer-as-peaky-blinders-creator-departs\">Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight departed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Mangold and Filoni&#8217;s films are the other two, though practically nothing has been said about these since the announcement, despite Lucasfilm president <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/kathleen-kennedy-says-new-star-wars-films-are-pretty-far-along-in-development\">Kathleen Kennedy saying they were both <\/a><a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/kathleen-kennedy-says-new-star-wars-films-are-pretty-far-along-in-development\">&#8220;pretty far along&#8221; in development at the time<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Elsewhere, Waititi&#8217;s film is apparently making slow and steady progress as <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/taika-waititi-doesnt-want-to-rush-his-star-wars-film\">it&#8217;s not expected until around 2030<\/a>. Levy&#8217;s film is in a similar boat <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/star-wars-film-from-deadpool-wolverine-director-reportedly-gets-writer\">though reportedly picked up a writer in July<\/a>, and Johnson&#8217;s trilogy <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/rian-johnsons-star-wars-trilogy-is-not-actively-in-development\">isn&#8217;t in active development either<\/a>. Lando was originally planned as a spin-off show but <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/star-wars-lando-is-now-being-developed-as-a-movie\">is now being developed as a sequel<\/a>, and has similarly received no significant updates.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Finally, <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/star-wars-rogue-squadron-feature-film-annonuced-patty-jenkins-to-direct\">Jenkins had a Rogue Squadron movie announced<\/a> before it was cancelled due to her commitments to Wonder Woman 3, but as <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/chris-pine-stunned-dc-cancelled-wonder-woman-3-they-said-no-to-a-billion-dollar-franchise\">that film was cancelled itself<\/a>, Jenkins said she still owes Disney a Star Wars script and thus <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/star-wars-rogue-squadron-back-in-development-patty-jenkins-says\">sparked hope that Rogue Squadron is back in development<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\"><em>Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter.
