The area of the face from the bridge of the nose down to the corners of the mouth has veins that connect directly to the brain via a blood vessel called the cavernous sinus,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Strom explains that traumatizing the skin in this critical area can introduce \u201ca nidus of infection into the bloodstream.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>This infection can be carried directly to the brain, causing infection and, in rare occurrences, even death. <\/p>\n<p>How does it happen? Squeezing a pimple can create an open wound, which can become infected by dirt from our hands and airborne bacteria. It is likely that you will worsen the redness and inflammation.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you squeeze an inflamed lesion, you could potentially rupture the follicle wall under the skin and spread the acne-causing bacteria, resulting in a\u00a0worsening of your acne\u00a0or more acne popping up nearby.
