That was the question I set out to answer. As a biologist, I understand\u00a0what happens to the brain when you fall in love. It is the increase or decrease of certain neurotransmitters that give you that unmistakable euphoric feeling of love. But, how do you get there? What causes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yourtango.com\/love\/beautiful-little-signs-youre-falling-in-love\">one person to fall in love<\/a> and not another?<\/p>\n<p>As I pondered\u00a0this question, I had the opportunity to explore it with my cousin, who has a PhD in Biochemistry. During our discussion, my then 95-year-old grandmother interrupted me\u00a0to say,<em> &#8220;You young people <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yourtango.com\/love\/mind-blowing-psychological-facts-about-love\"><em>don\u2019t know anything about love<\/em><\/a><em>.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>She was right. That\u2019s why we were having the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>She then said, &#8220;Back in my day, a girl knew if she wanted a guy to fall in love, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yourtango.com\/love\/smoking-hot-reason-avoid-hooking-up-first-date\">she couldn\u2019t sleep with him right away<\/a>. Put in human terms, men and women fall in love very differently.<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/nature.2013.13112\" rel=\"nofollow\">What the researchers found <\/a>was that certain types of neurotransmitters must increase to reach the neurological tipping point of falling in love. The importance of dopamine and oxytocin levels for women, and dopamine, testosterone, and vasopressin for men. But, even more important, how do they increase in each of us, and how does our behavior affect that increase?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hms.harvard.edu\/news-events\/publications-archive\/brain\/love-brain\" rel=\"nofollow\">According to additional research from Harvard University<\/a>, when we are &#8220;falling in love,&#8221; our body has a physical reaction.
