Rome\u2019s Trevi Fountain in hopes of tossing the traditional coins, brace yourselves \u2014 the beloved historic site has been shut down for construction work. <\/p>\n<p>For the time being, unwitting visitors will find the ancient water feature \u2014\u00a0said to typically take in more than $3,200 per day, according to officials \u2014 replaced by a utilitarian, temporary wishing well that one critic suggested offered all the charm of a \u2018municipal swimming pool.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The water was drained and the scenic site was roped off last month for refurbishment work \u2014\u00a0a step toward <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/09\/06\/lifestyle\/rome-may-soon-charge-tourists-hoping-to-visit-the-trevi-fountain\/\">the plan to charge the site\u2019s roughly four tourism official Alessandro Onorato told the AP, explaining the need for the planned fee of about $2.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWe need to safeguard two things, that tourists don\u2019t experience chaos and that citizens can continue to live in the center,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Visitors are currently able to crowd onto an elevated walkway running above the site, before tossing coins in the temporary pool.<\/p>\n<p>Once work is completed, timed reservations will reportedly be required for the best viewing areas. <\/p>\n<p>This would be the first attempt to regulate the area since the fountain was built in 1732, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/travel\/12821705\/europe-coin-tossing-attraction-new-pool-unhappy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to The Sun. <\/p>\n<figure
