They say they won\u2019t stop striking Israel and its allies until a ceasefire is reached in the Palestinian enclave.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3b0hfdw000a3b6mck173hvj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In mid-October, after more than a year of attacks by the Houthis on US and international vessels, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced that the US struck the militant group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/16\/politics\/us-strikes-iran-backed-houthis-yemen\/index.html\">using stealth B-2 bombers<\/a> for the first time. Austin said he authorized the strikes at the direction of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/politics\/joe-biden\">President Joe Biden<\/a> to \u201cfurther degrade\u201d the Houthis\u2019 capabilities.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3b0wsma000t3b6miq9o62p1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The B-2 bombers, which can carry a far larger payload than fighter jets, were a clear message to Iran, with Austin saying afterward that the US can hit targets \u201cthat our adversaries seek to keep out of reach, no matter how deeply buried underground, hardened, or fortified.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3b1mq3k00003b6mf8f6239u@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe will continue to make clear to the Houthis that there will be consequences for their illegal and reckless attacks,\u201d he said at the time.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3b0mpa2000i3b6myd9dp2mv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/04\/politics\/mapping-military-in-middle-east-dg\/index.html\">reported last month<\/a> that the US has strengthened its military posture in the region amid Israel\u2019s war with Hamas in Gaza and conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon.
