Another eight are still in the committee awaiting consideration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">At stake is the desire to enhance Biden\u2019s legacy of liberal judge appointees while limiting Trump\u2019s capacity to add to the number of conservative appointments he made to the bench during his first presidency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/us-senate-democrats-rush-confirm-judges-before-trump-takes-office-2024-11-12\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Trump made 234 judicial appointments<\/a> \u2013 the second most of any president \u2013 and nominated three rightwing justices to the supreme court, who drastically altered the court\u2019s balance and presaged a spate of conservative-inspired rulings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">In a social media post, Trump demanded without any authority that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/democrats\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Democrats<\/a> should not approve judges before they lose their narrow Senate majority.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">\u201cNo Judges should be approved during this period of time because the Democrats are looking to ram through their Judges as the Republicans fight over [Senate] Leadership. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/113460270802936865\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">the president-elect wrote<\/a> on his Truth Social network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">His entreaties opened him up to accusations of hypocrisy, given that in the weeks after he lost the 2020 election to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/joebiden\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Joe Biden<\/a> the Republican-led Senate approved 14 of his chosen judges. They included Aileen Cannon, who oversaw the classified document case against Trump in Florida and who subsequently dismissed special prosecutor Jack Smith\u2019s indictment against him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">Biden has successfully appointed 214 judges so far \u2013 meaning that if those awaiting confirmation are approved, he will have slightly surpassed the number of judicial appointments made by Trump in his first presidency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">The president\u2019s aides are urging Senate Democrats to move quickly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">\u201cThere is a push across the board from the White House and the Senate for Democrats to show up and do the job they were elected to do,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/11\/11\/politics\/biden-senate-democrats-judicial-nominees\/index.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">CNN quoted a senior White House official<\/a> as saying.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">\u201cI hope we are going to see some later nights. On a day you would normally process two nominees, why not process three?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">The tight schedule will depend on high Democratic attendance, in order to overcome Republican determination to obey Trump\u2019s desire to block new appointments.
