{"id":125651,"date":"2024-11-14T07:06:36","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T00:06:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=125651"},"modified":"2024-11-14T07:06:36","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T00:06:36","slug":"a-mysterious-extinct-species-seeded-their-genes-in-modern-humans-sciencealert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=125651","title":{"rendered":"A Mysterious Extinct Species Seeded Their Genes in Modern Humans : ScienceAlert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The tree of life is often more like a vine that snakes back on itself, with tendrils briefly embracing before they reach for the sky or wither into nothing.<\/p>\n<p>While much has been said about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/we-may-have-found-where-modern-humans-and-neanderthals-became-one\">Neanderthal and human branches<\/a> of humanity, it&#8217;s becoming increasingly clear our past has had frequent encounters with another close relative known as the  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/denisovans\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" data-linkid=\"73036\" data-postid=\"143111\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\">Denisovans<\/a> (pronounced duh-nee-suh-vns).<\/p>\n<p><!-- START single\/mrec --><br \/>\n<!-- END single\/mrec --><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41588-024-01960-y\">A recently published review<\/a> of the existing research on <span>Denisovan<\/span> DNA by Trinity College Dublin population geneticists Linda Ongaro\u2009and Emilia Huerta-Sanchez brings us up to date on how our own biology has been influenced by the history of a people we still know so very little about.<\/p>\n<p><!-- START single\/mrec --><br \/>\n<!-- END single\/mrec --><\/p>\n<p>According to their interpretation of the evidence, a number of  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/denisovans\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" data-linkid=\"73036\" data-postid=\"143111\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\">Denisovan<\/a> populations that were adapted to environments across the Asian continent and beyond passed their genes to our own recent ancestors on multiple occasions, bestowing us with a selection of their advantages just as  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/neanderthals\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" data-linkid=\"73037\" data-postid=\"143111\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\">Neanderthals<\/a> have done.<\/p>\n<p><!-- START single\/mrec --><br \/>\n<!-- END single\/mrec --><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a common misconception that humans evolved suddenly and neatly from one common ancestor, but the more we learn the more we realize interbreeding with different hominins occurred and helped to shape the people we are today,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tcd.ie\/news_events\/articles\/2024\/new-insights-into-the-denisovans--the-new-hominin-group-that-interbred-with-modern-day-humans-\/\">says<\/a> Ongaro, first author of the recent study.<\/p>\n<p><!-- START single\/mrec --><br \/>\n<!-- END single\/mrec --><\/p>\n<p>Compared with the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Engis_2\">century or two<\/a> that scientists have spent examining  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/neanderthals\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" data-linkid=\"73037\" data-postid=\"143111\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\">Neanderthal<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/fossilized-bone-of-neanderthal-with-down-syndrome-challenges-ideas-of-prehistoric-care\">remains<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/neanderthals-buried-their-dead-but-in-strangely-different-ways\">graves<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/surprising-signs-of-neanderthal-adaptability-discovered-in-ancient-rock-shelter\">artifacts<\/a>, our academic acquaintance with the Denisovans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhm.ac.uk\/discover\/news\/2024\/july\/first-known-denisovan-rib-could-reveal-more-about-ancient-human-relatives.html\">is remarkably recent<\/a>, and limited. (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Denisovan#\/media\/File:Denisova_Phalanx_distalis.jpg\">Thilo Parg\/Wikimedia Commons\/CC BY-SA 3.0<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Following a series of genetic analyses that began with a young female&#8217;s fingerbone <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/nature09710\">in 2010<\/a>, the remains are now understood to belong to a previously undescribed hominin group that became genetically distinct from Neanderthals <a href=\"https:\/\/humanorigins.si.edu\/evidence\/genetics\/ancient-dna-and-neanderthals\">around 400,000 years ago<\/a> \u2013 most likely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/news\/2019\/may\/neanderthals-and-modern-humans-diverged-least-800000-years-ago\">a few hundred thousand years<\/a> after Neanderthals became distinct from our own ancestors.<\/p>\n<p><!-- START single\/mrec --><br \/>\n<!-- END single\/mrec --><\/p>\n<p>Our understanding of the range, culture, and adaptations of the Denisovans has been building slowly over the years, hinting at a rich diversity of humans with a genetic legacy that stretches from Siberia to South East Asia and across Oceania to even the Americas.<\/p>\n<p><!-- START single\/mrec --><br \/>\n<!-- END single\/mrec --><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By leveraging the surviving Denisovan segments in modern human genomes scientists have uncovered evidence of at least three past events whereby genes from distinct Denisovan populations made their way into the genetic signatures of modern humans,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tcd.ie\/news_events\/articles\/2024\/new-insights-into-the-denisovans--the-new-hominin-group-that-interbred-with-modern-day-humans-\/\">says<\/a> Ongaro.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_143113\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-143113\" style=\"width: 642px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/images\/2024\/11\/denisovan_map_genetics.jpg\" alt=\"map of world with denisovan lineages\" width=\"642\" height=\"456\" class=\"wp-image-143113 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/images\/2024\/11\/denisovan_map_genetics.jpg 642w, https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/images\/2024\/11\/denisovan_map_genetics-584x415.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/images\/2024\/11\/denisovan_map_genetics-600x426.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 642px) 100vw, 642px\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-143113\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Branches of Denisovan populations have affected the genes of modern human populations across Oceania, South East Asia, and Siberia.
