Tropical activity should be winding down in November, but this will be the third named storm this month instead thanks to exceptionally warm water wrought by climate change.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3fy97pg00033b6miwh9w42x@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            For now, it\u2019s a fledgling area of stormy weather \u2013 dubbed Potential Tropical Cyclone Nineteen \u2013 just south of Jamaica, according to the National Hurricane Center.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3fz7z5r000f3b6nah06cdvn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            It\u2019s forecast to become a tropical depression by Thursday morning and then strengthen into a tropical storm as early as Thursday afternoon. It could eventually become a hurricane as it meanders over the very warm water of the western Caribbean Sea \u2013 the same body of water that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/11\/06\/weather\/hurricane-rafael-path-forecast-climate\/index.html\">fueled Rafael<\/a>. It will then drift toward Central America and stall in the area over the weekend and into early next week.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3gqzjqb00003b6npxgjtryf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Heavy rainfall is forecast to lead to life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides across Central America through early next week, particularly affecting Honduras, Belize, El Salvador, eastern Guatemala, and western Nicaragua, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/graphics_at4.shtml?start#contents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to the NHC\u2019s Wednesday evening update<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3gr62uw00023b6nqvftou1h@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A disturbance is expected to approach near hurricane strength as it reaches the eastern coast of Honduras and northeastern Nicaragua on Friday and Saturday, prompting hurricane watches and tropical storm warnings.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3gckcl800003b6nr8djptum@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A potential tropical cyclone is a designation given by the NHC to a system that hasn\u2019t formed yet, but will soon and is expected to bring impacts to land within 48 hours.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3gr9x9t00073b6n4u5vzj9m@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            By early next week, it may threaten Belize and the Yucat\u00e1n Peninsula with serious storm surge and damaging winds, so residents should prepare their hurricane plans. The potential impacts on the eastern Gulf of Mexico, including Florida, the Florida Keys, and Cuba, remain uncertain, and those in these areas should closely monitor forecasts.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3gcmyu800023b6n934e1lg0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The storm will bring \u201clife-threatening and potentially catastrophic\u201d flooding rainfall up to 30 inches to Honduras and double-digit rainfall totals to other parts of Central America, the NHC warned.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3fz7qyx000a3b6ndklis4il@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Forecast scenarios diverge drastically beyond Central America and hinge on how close the system gets to the coast. This scenario would bring strong winds and a deluge to Central America but could keep the storm away from the US.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3fy97pg000a3b6mt8q600at@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A storm that remains very close to the coast of Central America but doesn\u2019t make landfall would still unleash heavy rainfall there and could eventually emerge in the southern Gulf of Mexico next week. They\u2019re warmer than they should be at the peak of hurricane season and could continue to produce unusually strong storms. Warmer bodies of water are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/weather\/hurricanes-global-warming-preparation-climate\/index.html\">fueling stronger storms<\/a> and more rapid intensification as the world warms due to fossil fuel pollution.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3g0kedo000p3b6n3ivv3y4j@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            It could then make a gradual turn to the northwest, head for Mexico\u2019s Yucat\u00e1n Peninsula or Cuba and potentially reach the eastern Gulf of Mexico.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3g0l1k5000w3b6n38ijbydk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Gulf is <a href=\"https:\/\/kouya.has.arizona.edu\/tropics\/GOMsst.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">record warm<\/a> for this time of year and likewise could boost or sustain any system that reaches it.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3fy97pg000c3b6mw2aozlpa@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            This scenario would slam parts of Honduras, Nicaragua and surrounding areas with torrential, flooding rainfall and damaging winds for days before the system moves away early next week. Mexico\u2019s Yucat\u00e1n Peninsula or Cuba could be next in line for similar impacts, depending on how strong the system becomes and how sharp of a turn it makes.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3fy97pg000d3b6my1ip655d@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            This scenario is the most troubling for the US. A stronger system in the Gulf of Mexico could make a run at Florida next week.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3g0mmz700143b6nkbf17r19@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Five hurricanes have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/17\/business\/hurricane-milton-losses\/index.html\">slammed into<\/a> the US Gulf Coast this year.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3g1l05500053b6nsltr7aia@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            If this system were to make landfall in the US it could challenge the latest landfalling hurricane on record.
