{"id":125844,"date":"2024-11-14T19:21:14","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T12:21:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=125844"},"modified":"2024-11-14T19:21:14","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T12:21:14","slug":"ben-affleck-talks-david-ellison-paramount-deal-and-generative-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=125844","title":{"rendered":"Ben Affleck Talks David Ellison Paramount Deal and Generative AI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/ben-affleck\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ben-affleck_1\" data-tag=\"ben-affleck\">Ben Affleck<\/a> has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind, and while on a panel at CNBC\u2019s Delivering Alpha Summit Wednesday, he weighed in on a number of topics being closely watched by Hollywood, including the looming deal for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/skydance\/\" id=\"auto-tag_skydance_1\" data-tag=\"skydance\">Skydance<\/a> to buy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/paramount\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paramount_1\" data-tag=\"paramount\">Paramount<\/a> and the growing use of generative artificial intelligence by the industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAffleck, of course, is the co-founder and CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/artists-equity\/\" id=\"auto-tag_artists-equity_1\" data-tag=\"artists-equity\">Artists Equity<\/a>, the production venture he created with Matt Damon and RedBird\u2019s Gerry Cardinale. Cardinale, who sat next to Affleck on the CNBC panel, is also backing David Ellison\u2019s bid for Paramount.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tCardinale revealed finances for Artists Equity for the first time, telling David Faber that \u201cwe\u2019ve pre-sold north of $700 million in revenues in seven projects.\u00a0We\u2019re meaningfully cash flow positive.\u00a0We have built a company in two years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBut Affleck lamented that the job of a creative has gotten more challenging, given the enormous competition for consumer time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a little harder to do this job now.\u00a0You actually have to complete a little bit more, the consumer has more options.\u00a0They don\u2019t just have three networks, they don\u2019t just have a few studios,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201cYouTube is kicking people\u2019s ass.\u00a0You can watch a lot of things.\u00a0It\u2019s very diffuse, so you have to work harder and you have to be better.\u00a0You have to have better managers, you have to be better executers, you have to work with the best talent and you have to have the most rigor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cThe labor is feeling the rollback.\u00a0Talent, if you look at news, revenue for actors, writers, directors, is feeling the rollback,\u201d Affleck adds.\u00a0\u201cTypically the last group to feel that is the executive class.\u00a0But that has to come too, it just does, if you want fairness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBut he added that he is hopeful that a rejuvenated Paramount, under the leadership of Ellison, will change things.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cBefore Gulf and Western bought Paramount, the original studios had Harry and Jack Warner.\u00a0These people, they were owners, operators, founders,\u201d Affleck said.\u00a0\u201cThey cared about stories, and that\u2019s what they built, and then they sold them to other companies and sold them to other companies, and there became a greater distance between the people at the heart of it, sort of caring about telling the stories and the people who viewed them as valuable businesses in which to invest.\u00a0What that means now is particularly in the case of public companies, you have a different kind of management than you do with owner-managers.\u00a0There is a management class.\u00a0They come in and they have a more short-term agenda.\u00a0There are different incentives at play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tEllison and Cardinale, by contrast, are \u201cnot management class.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cThey\u2019re going to look at it in a very different way as somebody who\u2019s invested as an owner,\u201d he added.\u00a0\u201cHow many public companies are there run by the owners?\u00a0And Hollywood needs more robust entities like Paramount.\u00a0It\u2019s bad for the business when competition goes away, when it turns into oligopolies.\u00a0It doesn\u2019t function as well.\u00a0And there\u2019s a hell of a lot of money to be made in the linear studio space.\u00a0I\u2019d love to be Gerry and David Ellison.\u00a0I\u2019d love to go into that ecosystem and say, yeah, there\u2019s going to be some difficulty, there\u2019s going to be some hard choices, but there\u2019s tremendous opportunity and a lot of money to be made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnd the pair addressed the use of generative AI, with Cardinale calling it \u201ca tool in the tool box that will rejuvenate intellectual property.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cYou will make more intellectual property, more original content for half the cost,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201cNow, there\u2019ll be dislocations along the way, but that is a positive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAffleck was both bullish on the potential of the tech and somewhat dismissive of its impact on the film business, though he acknowledged that some parts of the business will be hit hard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cMovies will be one of the last things, if everything gets replaced, to be replaced by AI. AI can write you excellent imitative verse, that sounds Elizabethan.\u00a0It cannot write you Shakespeare,\u201d Affleck said.\u00a0\u201cThe function of having two actors or three or four actors in a room and the taste to discern and construct that is something that currently entirely eludes AI\u2019s capability and I think will for a meaningful period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWhat AI is going to do is going to disintermediate the more laborious, less creative and more costly aspects of filmmaking that will allow costs to be brought down, that will lower the barrier to entry, that will allow more voices to be heard, that will make it easier for the people who want to make <em>Good Will Huntings<\/em> to go out and make it,\u201d he adds. \u201cLook, AI is a craftsman, at best.\u00a0Craftsmen can learn to make Stickley Furniture by sitting down next to somebody and seeing what their technique is and imitating.\u00a0That\u2019s how large video models and large language models basically work.\u00a0Library of vectors of meaning and transformers that interpret it in context, right?\u00a0But they\u2019re just cross-pollinating things that exist.\u00a0Nothing new is created.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cCraftsman is knowing how to work.\u00a0Art is knowing when to stop,\u201d Affleck continued.\u00a0\u201cI think knowing when to stop is going to be a very difficult thing for AI to learn because it\u2019s taste.\u00a0And also lack of consistency, lack of controls, lack of quality.
