{"id":125929,"date":"2024-11-15T00:42:46","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T17:42:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=125929"},"modified":"2024-11-15T00:42:46","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T17:42:46","slug":"trump-promise-to-repeal-biden-climate-policies-could-cost-us-billions-report-finds-solar-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=125929","title":{"rendered":"Trump promise to repeal Biden climate policies could cost US billions, report finds | Solar power"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">The United States\u2019s blossoming emergence as a clean energy superpower could be stopped in its tracks by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/donaldtrump\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Donald Trump<\/a>, further empowering Chinese leadership and forfeiting tens of billions of dollars of investment to other countries, according to a new report.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">Trump\u2019s promise to repeal major climate policies passed during Joe Biden\u2019s presidency threatens to push $80bn of investment to other countries and cost the US up to $50bn in lost exports, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.netzeropolicylab.com\/trump-retreat\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">the analysis found<\/a>, surrendering ground to China and other emerging powers in the race to build electric cars, batteries, solar and wind energy for the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">\u201cThe US will still install a bunch of solar panels and wind turbines, but getting rid of those policies would harm the US\u2019s bid for leadership in this new world,\u201d said Bentley Allan, an environmental and political policy expert at Johns Hopkins University, who co-authored the new study.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">\u201cThe energy transition is inevitable and the future prosperity of countries hinges on being part of the clean energy supply chain,\u201d he said. \u201cIf we exit the competition, it will be very difficult to re-enter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">\u201cThis was our chance to enter the race for clean technologies while everyone else, not just China but South Korea and Nigeria and countries in Europe, do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">Under Biden, the US legislated the Chips Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, all aimed in varying degrees to deal with the climate crisis while also bolstering American manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">The IRA alone, with its major incentives for clean energy, is credited with helping create around 300,000 new jobs, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2024\/sep\/24\/biden-harris-inflation-reduction-act-swing-states-election\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">vast majority of $150bn in new manufacturing investment flowing to Republican-held districts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">Trump, however, has called this spending wasteful and vowed to erase it. \u201cI will immediately terminate the green new scam,\u201d the president-elect said shortly before his election win. \u201cThat will be such an honor. The greatest scam in the history of any country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">Doing this may be politically fraught, even with Republican control of Congress, due to the glut of new jobs and factories in conservative-leaning areas. But should Trump\u2019s plan prevail then planned US manufacturing projects would be canceled, according to the new report, leaving American firms reliant upon overseas suppliers for components.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">\u201cWithout these investments and tax credits, US industry will be hobbled just as it is getting going, ceding the ground to others,\u201d the report states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">Exports would also be hit, the analysis predicts, allowing US competitors to seize market share. \u201cThese plans suggest a complete misunderstanding of how the global economy works,\u201d said Allan. \u201cIf we don\u2019t have a manufacturing base, we aren\u2019t going to get ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">Trump has talked of forging \u201cAmerican energy dominance\u201d that is based entirely upon fossil fuels, with more oil and gas drilling coupled with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2024\/nov\/01\/trump-presidency-rfk-jr-offshore-wind-climate-crisis\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">pledge to scrap offshore wind projects<\/a> and an end to the \u201clunacy\u201d of electric cars subsidies. The president-elect is expected to lead a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2024\/nov\/11\/environmental-protection-agency-staff-react-trump-second-term\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">wide-ranging dismantling<\/a> of environmental and climate rules once he returns to the White House.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">These priorities, coming as peak global oil production is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/news\/slowing-demand-growth-and-surging-supply-put-global-oil-markets-on-course-for-major-surplus-this-decade\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">forecast<\/a> and pressure mounts to avert climate breakdown, could further cement China\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/globalenergymonitor.org\/report\/china-continues-to-lead-the-world-in-wind-and-solar-with-twice-as-much-capacity-under-construction-as-the-rest-of-the-world-combined\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">leadership<\/a> in clean energy production.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">\u201cChina already feels puzzled and skeptical of the Inflation Reduction Act,\u201d said Li Shuo, a climate specialist at the Asia Society Policy Institute. \u201cThrow in Trump and you deepen Chinese skepticism. This is political boom and bust. When it comes to selling clean energy to third country markets, China isn\u2019t sweating at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">But even Trump\u2019s agenda is not expected to completely stall clean energy\u2019s momentum. Renewables are now economically attractive and are set to still grow, albeit more bumpily. Solar, which has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/90583426\/the-price-of-solar-electricity-has-dropped-89-in-10-years\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">plummeted<\/a> by 90% in cost over the past decade, was <a href=\"https:\/\/grist.org\/energy\/solar-hits-a-renewable-energy-milestone-not-seen-since-wwii\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">added<\/a> to the American grid at three times the rate of gas capacity last year, for example.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">\u201cWe will see a big effort to boost the supply of fossil fuels from the US but most drilling is at full blast anyway,\u201d said Ely Sandler, a climate finance expert at Harvard University\u2019s Belfer Center.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">\u201cThat\u2019s quite different from demand, which is how power is generated and usually comes down to the cheapest source of energy which is increasingly renewables. If Donald Trump eases permitting regulations, it could even lead to more clean energy coming online.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">At the UN Cop29 talks in Azerbaijan, which started on Monday, countries are again having to grapple with a bewildering swing in the US\u2019s commitment to confront the climate crisis.
