(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=POOL\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"4\">POOL<\/a>) in the third quarter while continuing to trim stakes in longtime holdings Apple (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=AAPL\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"5\">AAPL<\/a>) and Bank of America (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=BAC\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"6\">BAC<\/a>).\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_3-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block finance-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> The moves were part of a series of shareholding adjustments\u2014disclosed in regulatory documents filed late Thursday\u2014that show Buffett continues to be a net seller of stocks as he builds Berkshire&#8217;s already-enormous cash holdings.<span class=\"ql-inline-citation\" data-cite=\"1\"\/> The conglomerate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/warren-buffett-berkshire-hathaway-apple-stock-cash-pile-q3-2024-8738738\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\">announced earlier this month<\/a> that its cash pile ballooned to a record $320.3 billion from $271.5 billion in the second quarter, with the vast majority of the total ($288 billion) invested in short-term\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/t\/treasurybill.asp\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\">Treasury bills<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_5-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block finance-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> The filing Thursday confirmed that Buffett sold exactly one-quarter of his enormous stake in Apple. The sale was suggested by Berkshire&#8217;s third-quarter earnings report earlier this month, but had yet to be officially disclosed to the public. Berkshire has steadily pared its stake in the iPhone maker, reducing it from nearly $175 billion at the start of the year to about $70 billion at the end of September. Still, Apple accounts for about a quarter of Berkshire&#8217;s $266 billion equity portfolio.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_7-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block finance-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> Berkshire, as expected, sold about 235 million shares of Bank of America. The firm also added a 404,000-share stake, worth $152 million, in Pool Corp. to its portfolio.
