The idea Microsoft is trying to get across, which is in keeping with its previous messaging, is that Xbox is less about consoles these days and more about being able to play on any device capable of playing a video game. So, in this sense, a TV is an Xbox, a phone is an Xbox, etc.<\/p>\n<p><output class=\"box-wrapper jsx-2673806401\"><\/p>\n<figure class=\"jsx-313219616\"><a href=\"https:\/\/assets-prd.ignimgs.com\/2024\/11\/15\/tiaxb-16x9-asset-r1-1-0f22101df1dfc3cb6000-1731666374471.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"null\" src=\"https:\/\/assets-prd.ignimgs.com\/2024\/11\/15\/tiaxb-16x9-asset-r1-1-0f22101df1dfc3cb6000-1731666374471.jpg?width=1280&amp;fit=bounds&amp;height=720&amp;quality=20&amp;dpr=0.05\" data-cy=\"progressive-image\" class=\"jsx-2920405963 progressive-image article-image article-image-full-size jsx-1809694635 jsx-2338608387 loading\"\/><\/a><figcaption data-cy=\"caption\" class=\"caption jsx-1762799490 jsx-479945570 article-image-caption\">Microsoft&#8217;s new &#8216;This is an Xbox&#8217; advertising campaign is already a meme. Not only have they seen the Xbox console fade from importance as sales of the Xbox Series X and S collapse, but the Xbox console exclusive become extinct.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">In a new interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/culture\/rs-gaming\/xbox-console-future-cloud-ceo-phil-spencer-1235166597\/\" class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rolling Stone<\/a>, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer discussed the future of the Xbox brand as well as the advertising campaign. \u201cIt\u2019s an interesting topic because as we look at the brand, as we\u2019re changing the brand, [it] means something different,\u201d Spencer said. \u201cIt literally was a box when it first launched. It was the Direct X box. What it\u2019s grown into now is more accessibility. Xbox isn\u2019t just one device, Xbox is on your smart TV, Xbox is on your PC, Xbox is on your phone, and we\u2019re in the middle of that transition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">According to Rolling Stone, Spencer acknowledged that some fans would be turned off by the campaign. Some people \u201clong for the simplicity of a single box, single platform, single game,\u201d he said, before insisting \u201ctoday\u2019s largest games are bigger than any of the individual platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">That\u2019s a nod to the likes of Fortnite and Roblox, which have become enormous platforms with monthly player counts comparable to the likes of Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo consoles.
