This is the final supermoon of this year&#8217;s four supermoons, when the moon appears bigger and brighter than normal, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.almanac.com\/full-moon-november\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Old Farmer\u2019s Almanac<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">And as the Beaver Moon is rising, spectators might glimpse a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/solar-system\/moon\/the-moon-illusion-why-does-the-moon-look-so-big-sometimes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">moon illusion<\/a>,&#8221; a period of time where the supermoon could look even bigger than normal due to an optical illusion. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Scientists are actually unsure why this happens, but believe<a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/solar-system\/moon\/the-moon-illusion-why-does-the-moon-look-so-big-sometimes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/solar-system\/moon\/the-moon-illusion-why-does-the-moon-look-so-big-sometimes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">our brains don\u2019t know<\/a> that the moon\u2019s distance doesn\u2019t change that much no matter where it is in the sky on a given night, said NASA Public Engagement Specialist Preston Dyches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Beaver Moon was named after the time of year when\u00a0beavers begin hibernation. During the fur trade in North America, this was also the season to trap beavers for their thick, winter-ready\u00a0pelts, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.almanac.com\/full-moon-november\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Old Farmer&#8217;s Almanac<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A supermoon occurs when a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/moon\/moon-phases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">full moon<\/a>\u00a0coincides with the moon\u2019s closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, a point known as\u00a0perigee. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/moon\/supermoons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASA<\/a>, &#8220;supermoon&#8221; isn\u2019t an official astronomical term, but typically it\u2019s used to describe a full moon that comes within at least 90 percent of perigee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Those hoping to catch a glimpse might be in for a bonus scene in the sky as the Leonid meteor shower reaches its peak on Saturday night into early Sunday, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amsmeteors.org\/meteor-showers\/meteor-shower-calendar\/#Leonids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Meteor Society<\/a>.
