{"id":126402,"date":"2024-11-16T06:15:03","date_gmt":"2024-11-15T23:15:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=126402"},"modified":"2024-11-16T06:15:03","modified_gmt":"2024-11-15T23:15:03","slug":"contenders-trump-is-vetting-to-replace-ftc-chair-lina-khan-sources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=126402","title":{"rendered":"Contenders Trump is vetting to replace FTC Chair Lina Khan: sources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>President-elect Donald Trump has assembled a shortlist of candidates to replace Lina Khan as chair of the Federal Trade Commission \u2013 including top JD Vance aide Gail Slater and current FTC commissioner Andrew Ferguson, sources familiar with the matter told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Khan \u2014 whose aggressive enforcement tactics on antitrust have roiled the business community, despite drawing occasional praise from some Republicans including Vance \u2014 is expected to leave the powerful agency after Trump\u2019s inauguration in January. <\/p>\n<p>Her term formally expired in September.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Gail Slater is a adviser to Vice President-elect JD Vance. <span class=\"credit\">C -SPAN<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Slater, who has been advising the Trump transition team on tech and antitrust policy and who has advised Vance on economic policy, is herself a leading candidate for FTC chair, sources said. <\/p>\n<p>The Oxford-educated lawyer served as a special assistant to Trump during his first White House term and did stints at Fox Corp. and Roku.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy gut is that it\u2019s Gail,\u201d one source familiar with the situation said. \u201cShe\u2019s at the center of this. She\u2019s a Vance person but acceptable to the business community.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Others are pointing to Ferguson. <\/p>\n<p>The former chief counsel\u00a0to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who is already a sitting commissioner, could be appointed as acting chair following Khan\u2019s exit \u2013 and some DC insiders believe that gives him a leg up on Slater.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFerguson is someone who has served in a big role at FTC, he clerked for Clarence Thomas, he confirmed a bunch of judges for Donald Trump when he worked in the Senate,\u201d one Republican insider said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Some sources said FTC commissioner Andrew Ferguson has an inside track on serving as chair. <span class=\"credit\">Federal Trade Commission<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>However, Ferguson\u2019s ties to McConnell \u2014 who has famously butted heads with Trump during his years as Senate majority leader \u2014 could hurt his chances.<\/p>\n<p>The GOP is currently divided into two camps \u2013 one that prefers a more traditional business-friendly approach to enforcement and the other that wants a crackdown on Big Tech and other monopolistic corporations.<\/p>\n<p>Vance is one of a handful of conservatives who praised Khan\u2019s aggressive enforcement stance at the FTC. He has also publicly called for Google to be broken up.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Elon Musk, a Trump megadonor who played a critical role in boosting his campaign and is slated to head up a \u201cdepartment of government efficiency\u201d for his administration, was among the business leaders who has criticized Khan.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>FTC Commissioner Melissa Holyoak could serve as interim chair. <span class=\"credit\">Federal Trade Commission<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Other possible contenders to lead the FTC Melissa Holyoak, the other current siting Republican FTC commissioner. <\/p>\n<p>Like Ferguson, she could serve as acting boss until a permanent pick is confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Meador, a highly-regarded lawyer who previously held gigs with the FTC and the DOJ\u2019s antitrust unit, is also a possibility, according to sources. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Mark Meador is a former adviser to Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). <span class=\"credit\">Kressin Meador<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Currently in private practice, Meador also served as an antitrust policy adviser for Sen.
