Today, Geoff Keighley and company have issued a clarification on nominees\u2019 eligibility. Although previously, the rules did not explicitly forbid video game DLCs and expansions from nomination, some may have erroneously assumed that DLCs wouldn\u2019t be in contention for these awards.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _11x6rb9h ku7vx11 ku7vx10 t0irya0\">In the update posted today to <a href=\"https:\/\/thegameawards.com\/faq\">the FAQ on The Game Awards website<\/a>, there\u2019s a new question: \u201cAre DLCs, expansion packs and remakes\/ remasters eligible?\u201d Here\u2019s the answer:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"duet--article--blockquote _174w5x40 t0irya8\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup _174w5x48 t0irya0\">The Game Awards aims to recognize the best creative and technical work each year, irrespective of the format of that content\u2019s release. Expansion packs, new game seasons, DLCs, remakes and remasters are eligible in all categories, if the jury deems the new creative and technical work to be worthy of a nomination. Factors such as the newness of the content and its price\/value should be taken into consideration.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _11x6rb9h ku7vx11 ku7vx10 t0irya0\">We aren\u2019t sure whether or not <em>Shadow of the Erdtree<\/em> will get a GOTY nomination, nor other nominations \u2014 previously, we might have predicted seeing <em>Elden Ring<\/em> in \u201cBest Ongoing Game\u201d (the place that the parent games for exceptional DLCs and expansions tend to get nominated, thereby serving as a way for those additions to be recognized). Now, it could end up anywhere. As for the DLC itself, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/reviews\/24180518\/elden-ring-shadow-of-the-erdtree-review-dlc-fromsoftware\">we loved it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _11x6rb9h ku7vx11 ku7vx10 t0irya0\"><strong>Correction<\/strong>: A previous version of this story incorrectly suggested that voters for The Game Awards might not have been aware of this rule.
