Gaetz\u2019s nomination for attorney general, several questions demand answers,\u201d Leppard continued. \u201cWhat if multiple credible witnesses provided evidence of behavior that would constitute serious criminal violations?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe woman\u2019s attorney pressed: \u201cDemocracy demands transparency. Release the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-news\/matt-gaetz-ethics-probe-release-1235166405\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gaetz Ethics report<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tGaetz announced he was resigning from his congressional seat on Wednesday evening, immediately after President-elect<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/donald-trump\/\"> Trump<\/a>\u00a0tapped the Florida congressman to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-news\/matt-gaetz-trump-pick-attorney-general-1235165266\/\">serve as his attorney general<\/a>. The investigation stemmed from a separate probe into Joel Greenberg, a long-time friend of Gaetz\u2019s. Greenberg pleaded guilty to charges of underage sex trafficking, falsification of documents, stalking, and wire fraud in 2021, and was\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2022\/12\/01\/politics\/joel-greenberg-sentencing\/index.html\">sentenced to 11 years<\/a>\u00a0in prison. As part of his plea deal, he agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in their investigation into Gaetz.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tJohn Clune, an attorney representing Gaetz\u2019s alleged victim,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CluneEsq\/status\/1857083883197448542\">wrote on X<\/a> Thursday that \u201cMr. Gaetz\u2019s likely nomination as Attorney General is a perverse development in a truly dark series of events. We would support the House Ethics Committee immediately releasing their report.
