{"id":126567,"date":"2024-11-16T16:30:50","date_gmt":"2024-11-16T09:30:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=126567"},"modified":"2024-11-16T16:30:50","modified_gmt":"2024-11-16T09:30:50","slug":"rockwood-summit-e-coli-cases-near-70-st-louis-officials-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=126567","title":{"rendered":"Rockwood Summit E. coli cases near 70, St. Louis officials say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>The county health department said as of 12:30 p.m. Friday, 69 cases have been identified.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>FENTON, Mo. \u2014 The St. Louis County Department of Public Health is investigating an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksdk.com\/article\/news\/health\/rockwood-summit-high-school-e-coli-cases\/63-66f09035-4d75-4b44-84ea-13e9e6b1dd10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">E. coli outbreak<\/a> affecting parents, students and guests of Rockwood Summit High School.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>The department said Friday as of 12:30 p.m., 69 cases have been identified.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>The department said individuals who tested positive for E. coli attended two separate events hosted at or catered through Andre\u2019s Banquets and Catering in association with Rockwood Summit High School.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>Officials said although current details are suggestive of salad being the source of illness, they have not identified a specific ingredient, nor do they have information on the nature or timing of the contamination. They said Andre\u2019s Banquets and Catering has been cooperating with investigators.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>\u201cThe health and safety of our community are our highest priorities,\u201d said Dr. Kanika Cunningham, Director of the Saint Louis County Department of Public Health. \u201cOur team is working tirelessly alongside the Rockwood School District and other stakeholders to pinpoint the source of this outbreak and prevent further cases. We are grateful for the district&#8217;s cooperation and for the community&#8217;s patience as we complete this critical work.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksdk.com\/article\/news\/health\/rockwood-summit-high-school-e-coli-cases\/63-66f09035-4d75-4b44-84ea-13e9e6b1dd10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">On Wednesday,<\/a> Rockwood Summit High School Principal Emily McCown said the district was contacted by the St. Louis County Department of Public Health in regards to the suspected E. coli infections. An email sent to parents said it was all connected to food eaten at an &#8220;end-of-season event,&#8221; and on Friday, district spokeswoman Mary LaPak said they are investigating a second school event as well.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>The email also said the district was bringing in &#8220;extra help&#8221; to deep clean the school. That cleaning included spraying classrooms and common areas, and increased focus on all bathrooms and doorknobs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>On Friday, LaPak shared with 5 On Your Side, &#8220;We are also doing everything we can to support those students, staff and families who are ill and in some cases hospitalized with this illness.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>The Department of Public Health urges anyone experiencing symptoms of E. coli infection \u2013 including severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody), vomiting, and fever \u2013 to seek medical attention immediately. Preventative measures such as proper handwashing and food safety practices remain critical during this time.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>The health department said symptoms usually begin two to five days after exposure and can last up to 10 days.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>The department also said at-risk groups can also experience a severe complication called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, which can lead to kidney failure, neurologic damage, and in some cases, death.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>The health department said if you think you may be sick with E. coli infection, call your healthcare provider immediately.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>5 On Your Side also spoke with St. Louis health experts on what to do if you believe you&#8217;re sick from E. coli.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>Dr. Farrin Manian, Department of Medicine Chair and an infectious disease physician with Mercy Hospital St. Louis said &#8220;if you have fever, if you really feel like you got a bad, flu-like illness, you should seek medical attention.&#8221; Manian says for people that do end up in the hospital, they&#8217;re usually &#8220;successfully discharged.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>At Total Access Urgent Care in St. Louis, Nurse Practitioner Jennifer O&#8217;Donnell says she treats E. Coli cases often. &#8220;We can give them IV fluids. We can check those kidney functions. We can run the stool cultures if necessary,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>John Armengol Jr., owner of Andre\u2019s released a statement Friday night:<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p><em>I adamantly (deny) that my business was the source of the outbreak. The health department that we have been in conjunction with have not tested any of the products &#8211; salad &#8211; or confirmed the source of the outbreak.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p><em>Andre\u2019s served over 3400 meals last week, the same food items with no outbreaks of any kind.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p><em>We check our product loads daily and they are USDA inspected.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p><em>The farms I buy from test products daily and those are USDA inspected.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p><em>The press release by the health department, without texting the food products and listing Andre\u2019s name, was not only reckless but defamatory to a business that has supported this community since 1980 and we defend ourselves to the fullest.
