He waived his right to a jury trial during a court hearing earlier this week.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3jbiwbm000h3b6mh07rv81f@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Venezuelan migrant is also charged under Georgia\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/05\/08\/us\/laken-riley-killing-indictment\/index.html\">peeping Tom\u201d law<\/a>. Around that time, Riley initiated her phone\u2019s SOS function and called 911.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3jd2zqo000u3b6mry6cg6fb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cShe\u2019s on this trail with this defendant for about four minutes, and then you see four minutes later, her Garmin (smartwatch) moves 65 feet into the woods,\u201d Ross told Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard, who will determine Ibarra\u2019s fate.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3jd2zqo000v3b6m8m9mv0dn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Ross described Riley\u2019s encounter with her attacker as \u201clong\u201d and \u201cfierce,\u201d according to the watch\u2019s data. \u201cOnce her heart stops at 9:28 a.m., there\u2019s no more movement from her (smartwatch),\u201d the prosecutor said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3jd2zqo000w3b6m6hqmhm5j@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            One of Riley\u2019s roommates, Lilly Steiner, testified Friday she\u2019d seen Riley\u2019s iPhone location earlier that morning using the phone\u2019s Find My feature. \u201cI checked her location to see where she was, and I saw that she was on a run on a trail that she typically ran,\u201d Steiner said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3jd2zqo000x3b6mdx8sup3u@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Concerned after Riley\u2019s approximate location had not changed by around 10:45 a.m., Steiner and another roommate went out to search the trail area using the feature, Steiner said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3jd2zqo000y3b6mzxl23xne@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            They came across an AirPod believed to be Riley\u2019s, photographed it and brought it home where they called UGA police around 12:05 p.m., according to Ross.\n    <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subheader inline-placeholder\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/subheader\/instances\/cm3jd3n1100123b6mqmwrssf4@published\" data-component-name=\"subheader\" id=\"responding-officer-said-it-took-about-21-minutes-to-find-her-body\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n        Responding officer said it took about 21 minutes to find her body<br \/>\n<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3jbieo400093b6mpk5tp7jw@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Body camera video from responding officer Sgt. Kenneth Maxwell with the University of Georgia Police Department, who discovered Riley\u2019s body, was played in court during his testimony.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3jdnb0j00153b6mjdo0pxog@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Judge Haggard paused proceedings to allow anyone who didn\u2019t want to see Riley\u2019s body shown to step out.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3jdnb0j00163b6m7d051gcg@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Maxwell described discovering Riley\u2019s partially nude remains. \u201cIt looked more intentional, as if somebody had attempted to either remove her top, or maybe had used it to drag her,\u201d said Maxwell, who added it took about 21 minutes to locate Riley. He immediately began performing lifesaving measures, the video showed.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3jdnb0j00173b6m5nqnyw4h@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            As the video played, Maxwell could be seen swallowing hard, while crying from others could be heard in the courtroom.
