The social network has come a long way since the early bare-bones days of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/2\/28\/23619270\/decentralized-twitter-alternative-bluesky-ios-invite-only\">invite-only signups<\/a> and recently grew <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/11\/13\/24295484\/bluesky-15-million-users-social-media-x-musk\">past the 15 million user mark<\/a>. Along the way, it\u2019s gathered a lot of familiar posting platform features, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/5\/22\/24162749\/bluesky-send-direct-messages\">direct messages<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/10\/11\/24267678\/bluesky-app-update-pinned-posts-font-size-threads-pitch\">pinned posts<\/a>, and the ability to post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/9\/11\/24241994\/bluesky-share-videos-update\">videos up to 60 seconds in length<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">But there\u2019s a lot more to it than that, and I\u2019m not only talking about lore. It\u2019s also got a number of features and settings you won\u2019t find on X or Threads, like the ability to choose your own algorithm or moderation tools. But you can also customize whether it shows replies, reposts, quote posts, and \/ or samples from your custom feeds \u2014 setting all of these to \u201coff\u201d means your Following feed will only display posts from people you follow. These are prepackaged lists of accounts, often chosen around a theme. Bluesky\u2019s team has made some of these, but there are also thousands of user-made lists containing accounts that often post about specific topics or are part of certain groups. As such, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.social\/about\/blog\/4-28-2023-domain-handle-tutorial\">pick your own domain name<\/a> suffix for your handle. You\u2019ll need to either own that domain or get it from another service, such as Threads. A word of warning, though: once you\u2019ve done this, your handle \/ domain name combo is now free for someone else to take.
