The leak is in a tunnel that connects the Russian module Zvezda to the docking port that receives spacecraft carrying supplies and cargo. The module was launched in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>NASA said \u201cThe cracks are very small, not visible to the naked eye and have brackets and pipelines near them, making it difficult to get diagnostic tools into those areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The air leaking from the cracks was estimated in April this year at 1.7 kg per day, which is seen as an all time high.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-top:5px; padding-bottom:5px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/whatsapp.com\/channel\/0029VaEFVX84SpkNskd4Gq0y\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazyloaded=\"1\" width=\"1200\" height=\"200\" alt=\"Nitin A Gokhale WhatsApp Channel\" title=\"Nitin A Gokhale WhatsApp Channel\" src=\"https:\/\/stratnewsglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Nitin-Gokhale-WhatsApp-Channel.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>NASA and Roscosmos, its Russian counterpart, <a href=\"https:\/\/stratnewsglobal.com\/world-news\/iss-crisis-audio-was-simulation-all-safe-aboard-space-station-says-nasa\/\">disagree on the risk it poses,<\/a> the causes for the leak and how it can be remedied. Russia points to high cyclic fatigue due to micro-vibrations, while NASA says it\u2019s about mechanical stress, residual stress, exposure to the environment and so on.<\/p>\n<p>The Russians have also dismissed as \u201cunrealistic\u201d, NASA\u2019s warnings of \u201ccatastrophic failure\u201d and say operations can continue. But the Americans reject this argument. The US has mooted the idea of calling in a team of neutral experts but the Russians are not agreeable.<\/p>\n<p>While discussions are on to find a way forward, some steps are being taken to mitigate any risk due to the leak of air.
