A day later, the district superintendent, Scot Stockwell, was placed on leave, the district said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The teachers, Eric Stearns, 46, a teacher at the high school, and Mark Collins, 64, who recently retired from the school, were each charged with several counts of sexual abuse, the <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sthelensoregon.gov\/police\/page\/st-helens-detectives-make-two-arrests-teacher-sex-abuse-investigation\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">St. Helens Police Department said.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Joseph Hogue, the acting police chief, said that investigators had identified nine female victims between Mr. Stearns and Mr. Collins from 2019-23. The investigation is continuing and detectives are still fielding calls, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">A lawyer for Mr. Stearns, Jennifer L.
