There are two different shooting events. They are 45 minutes apart from each other,\u201d Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said during a Sunday evening news conference.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3ma13jt0007356mjjzcvds2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Despite some additional police resources at the event, gunfire erupted at about 3:40 p.m. \u201cApparently, a car was involved \u2026 and shots were fired into the crowd,\u201d Kirkpatrick said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3ma13jt0008356m65h18k0x@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Nine people were hurt and taken to hospitals. \u201cAll of those victims are alive,\u201d she said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3mc657h0002356molxq5d9p@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Police \u201cknow two weapons were used by the ballistics that are left on the scene,\u201d Kirkpatrick said. No additional information was provided about the firearms.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3ma13jt000a356mh8ww1wxa@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cApproximately 45 minutes later, up on the bridge, we did have another outbreak of gunfire,\u201d Kirkpatrick said. Three more people were struck by gunfire, according to police.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3mc74jn0004356meme7air3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cBecause no cars were able to be on that bridge, we know that the shooting occurred within the crowd,\u201d she said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3ma13jt000c356m8sqn5j7j@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Two people were killed during the second shooting and another \u201cis in extreme critical condition,\u201d Kirkpatrick said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3ma13jt000d356mujjy3qn5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Police say it is still unclear whether the shootings are related because they occurred 45 minutes apart.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3mn0pan00043b6mmbayos3d@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cA tragic scene in the St. Roch neighborhood this evening,\u201d Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LAGovJeffLandry\/status\/1858311427175408008\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shared on social media.<\/a> \u201cSharon and I are praying for all involved, and we are grateful to the first responders who rushed to the scene. The violence must end.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3mn0pan00053b6mlkewino1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Attorney General Liz Murrill <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AGLizMurrill\/status\/1858320642409390113\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said on social media<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019m saddened to learn about this senseless mass shooting in New Orleans this afternoon. I\u2019m praying for the victims and their families. This kind of lawlessness will NOT be tolerated. I\u2019m hopeful the perpetrators are caught soon and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3ma12xq0002356mu699vxwl@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe\u2019re sure someone probably has video, film, something, and we would like them to call\u201d New Orleans police or Crime Stoppers, Kirkpatrick urged.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3ma13jt0005356mu76bf6fb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            She said police \u201chave had a history\u201d with this second-line and \u201cadded officers to this event, knowing that it had a potential for violence.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3mcb60q0012356me6ysb6hi@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Second-line parades are community-driven, informal processions, often organized by social aid and pleasure clubs, or as part of a larger public gathering like a funeral or a celebration. The term \u201csecond line\u201d refers to the people who follow the main brass band procession, the \u201cfirst line.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3ma13jt0006356mvaj0n1ef@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIt\u2019s a wonderful event \u2026 and we wanted to keep it a wonderful event,\u201d she said.
