But Jaguar Land Rover, <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/business-europe-birmingham-brexit-tata-motors-ltd-f5dc5d71bf2b43ccb250f8c1a2a3b180\">a unit of India\u2019s Tata Motors Ltd.,<\/a><\/span> has been promoting it online.<\/p>\n<p>The Jaguar brand is in the middle of a transition to going all-electric. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cCopy Nothing,\u201d marketing materials read. \u201cWe\u2019re here to delete the ordinary. To go bold. To copy nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The promotional video, posted on X and Instagram, shows models dressed in futuristic brightly colored outfits walking in an alien-like landscape. \u201cBreak Moulds,\u201d copy reads.<\/p>\n<p>It drew ire online, with people complaining about the lack of a car and the confusing message. X owner Elon Musk wrote on X, \u201cDo you sell cars?\u201d People also complained about the new, stylized, logo. The \u201cleaper\u201d jaguar image has also been reimagined.<\/p>\n<p>Charles Taylor, marketing professor at the Villanova School of Business in Villanova, Pennsylvania, said the promotional video strikes the wrong tone for potential buyers, and said the company is making a mistake by not using the brand\u2019s heritage as an elegant British high-performance sports car in its marketing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they came back with a really good electric vehicle, they could build on their prior image as opposed to really throwing out the heritage of the brand and going in this kind of direction,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s hard to see how the market of people that would like that approach is large enough for them to thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebranding is <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/meta-zuckerberg-facebook-philip-morris-0c2dd2cf2898a1b5f82ae6813989a011\">a common tactic for companies<\/a><\/span> seeking to spark sales. Campbell Soup Co. on Wednesday <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/campbell-soup-name-change-brand-b0ca80c16572387a2c25b67622bc6488\">officially changed its name<\/a><\/span> to Campbell\u2019s Co., and companies like Airbnb and Instagram update their logos from time to time.<\/p>\n<p>But if they strike a wrong chord, the result can be disastrous. Past rebranding failures include Tropicana changing its logo in 2009 to omit its trademark orange \u2014 it soon changed it back.
