{"id":128798,"date":"2024-11-22T13:15:50","date_gmt":"2024-11-22T06:15:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=128798"},"modified":"2024-11-22T13:15:50","modified_gmt":"2024-11-22T06:15:50","slug":"us-state-of-alabama-carries-out-third-execution-by-nitrogen-gas-crime-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=128798","title":{"rendered":"US state of Alabama carries out third execution by nitrogen gas | Crime News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p class=\"article__subhead\"><em>Carey Grayson was executed using controversial method after being convicted of the 1994 murder of a hitchhiker.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>A man convicted of murdering a hitchhiker 30 years ago has become the third person in the United States to be executed by nitrogen gas.<\/p>\n<p>Carey Grayson, 50, was executed in Alabama on Thursday after the US Supreme Court declined a request for a stay on the grounds that asphyxiation by nitrogen gas constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.<\/p>\n<p>Grayson was sentenced to death over the 1994 torture, bludgeoning and mutilation of Vickie Lynn Deblieux, a hitchhiker who was travelling to her mother\u2019s home in Louisiana.<\/p>\n<p>Deblieux\u2019s mutilated body was found with 180 stab wounds, one of her lungs removed and her fingers and thumbs cut off.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTonight, justice has been served,\u201d Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Alabama has executed three death row inmates by nitrogen gas this year and is the only US state to have employed the controversial method.<\/p>\n<p>While Alabama officials have described nitrogen asphyxiation as the most painless and humane method of execution, critics have likened the practice to torture.<\/p>\n<p>During his execution, Grayson shook his head from side to side, pulled against his gurney restraints and gasped for several minutes before being pronounced dead, according to US media reports.<\/p>\n<p>Alabama Department of Corrections Commissioner John Q Hamm said after the execution that Grayson\u2019s movements appeared to have been \u201cfor show\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A group of United Nations experts on Thursday called for a ban on execution by nitrogen gas, saying it violates international law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe emphasise that the prohibition on torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment is absolute, never acceptable and not dependant on alternatives,\u201d the experts said in a statement released by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.<\/p>\n<p>Out of 50 US states, 21, including Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Georgia, allow the death penalty.<\/p>\n<p>So far this year, US authorities have executed 22 people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1660802\">\r\n<\/div>\r\n<script>(function(w,q){w[q]=w[q]||[];w[q].push([\"_mgc.load\"])})(window,\"_mgq\");\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/11\/22\/us-state-of-alabama-carries-out-third-execution-by-nitrogen-gas\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carey Grayson was executed using controversial method after being convicted of the 1994 murder of a hitchhiker.
