New <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2024\/11\/13\/ios-182-has-the-best-apple-intelligence-features-heres-whats-coming\/\">Apple Intelligence features<\/a> are a major highlight, but so too is the Mail app, which gets its biggest redesign ever. Here\u2019s everything that\u2019s new.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-979626\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-new-mail-app-looks-more-like-messages\">New Mail app looks more like Messages<\/h2>\n<p>When you open Apple\u2019s Mail app on iOS 18.2, the redesign is almost immediately evident. Where you used to just see a bunch of text, now there\u2019s color and imagery to go with it. Basically, emails in your inbox look a lot like threads in the Messages app, with a contact photo on the left.<\/p>\n<p>This change ties in with Apple\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2024\/10\/16\/apple-brand-logos-iphone-mail-phone-caller-id\/\">Branded Mail tools<\/a> for businesses. A business can now upload their logo to have it used as the contact photo not only in Mail, but also the Phone app, and in the Apple Pay interface when making contactless payments. But if a business hasn\u2019t done that yet, place icons from Apple Maps get applied here instead.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-categories-bring-major-changes-to-how-your-inbox-works\">Categories bring major changes to how your inbox works<\/h2>\n<p>More significant than the addition of contact photos, iOS 18.2 also brings a fundamental change to how your inbox works.<\/p>\n<p>Apple Mail now automatically divides your inbox into four categories. There\u2019s an option to automatically send messages from a given sender to a category of your choice, rather than letting Apple\u2019s system choose for you.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s some more good news: if you\u2019re not a big fan of the new category system, there are two ways to get your old unified inbox back.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>By default, the Mail app only shows the four listed categories. But there\u2019s a hidden \u2018All Mail\u2019 view that still exists. No matter which inbox category you\u2019re viewing, you can swipe left to go to the \u2018All Mail\u2019 view.<\/li>\n<li>Or, if you want to disable categories altogether, tap the three dots in the top-right corner to switch from Categories to List View instead. But as with most of iOS 18.2\u2019s new features, you can disable this behavior if you\u2019d like.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ios-18-2-mail-app-wrap-up\">iOS 18.2 Mail app wrap-up<\/h2>\n<p>Mail is one of the rare iPhone apps that\u2019s extremely popular, yet historically hasn\u2019t received many updates from Apple. But iOS 18.2\u2019s redesign changes that.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve really enjoyed using the new Mail app in the iOS 18.2 beta, but I\u2019m also glad Apple has provided tools to disable many of the changes if they don\u2019t quite work for you. Now that Mail has been redesigned for iPhone, though, I\u2019m ready to see these changes come to the iPad and Mac as well.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think of Mail\u2019s redesign?
