Before that, he was the chief investment officer at Soros Fund Management, a hedge fund started by Democratic megadonor George Soros. He gained prominence at the firm for leading efforts to bet against the British pound and Japanese yen that netted the firm billions of dollars in profits.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3tcvhl5000p3b6mlwoz4jyf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Since Trump\u2019s electoral victory, the US dollar has jumped, reaching a one-year high. The rally \u201cis a vote of confidence in US leadership internationally and in the dollar as the world\u2019s reserve currency,\u201d Bessent said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/opinion\/markets-hail-trumps-economics-he-will-repair-biden-damage-pro-growth-investment-boost-f3954dbe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">November 10 opinion piece<\/a> he penned for The Wall Street Journal. Similar rallies in financial markets, he said, were signs investors \u201cexpect the Trump agenda to foster noninflationary growth that will drive private investment.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3tcvgdy000n3b6ma2554jiq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            He went on to advocate for Trump to pursue policies involving deregulation and tax cuts as well as \u201caddressing the debt burden,\u201d which he attributed to \u201cfour years of reckless spending.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm3td0pom000u3b6m7yegw4x4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In the piece, however, Bessent made no mention of tariffs.
