Together, we will achieve historic cooperation between Business and Labor that will restore the American Dream for Working Families,\u201d Trump wrote, in part, in a statement on DeRemer\u2019s nomination.<\/p>\n<p>Chavez-DeRemer posted to &#8220;X&#8221; thanking the former president on the nomination:<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Labor Secretary is responsible for enforcing and suggesting laws involving labor unions, the workplace, and issues relating to business-employee relationships.<\/p>\n<p>Chavez-DeRemer won office in Oregon\u2019s 5th Congressional District in 2022 but lost a highly competitive reelection bid to Democratic nominee and state Rep. Janelle Bynum during this year&#8217;s election.<\/p>\n<p>Because of her defeat in November, Chavez-DeRemer\u2019s nomination will not affect the Republican majority in the House.<\/p>\n<p>KATU has reached out to DeRemer\u2019s office for comment on her nomination.
