Nine people were hospitalized and one, an infant in California, died. The C.D.C. did not say when the baby died.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The agency said that lab tests and interviews with the people indicated that products from Yu Shang Food had made them sick.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The company, based in Spartanburg, S.C., is recalling products including pork belly, chicken feet, duck neck and beef shank, the U.S. Department of Agriculture\u2019s <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/recalls-alerts\/yu-shang-food-inc--recalls-ready-eat-meat-and-poultry-products-due-possible-0\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Food Safety and Inspection Service<\/a> said. These have been shipped to retail locations nationwide and were also available online.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">All of Yu Shang Food\u2019s ready-to-eat products made before Oct. 28 are subject to the recall, the service said, publishing a <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/media_file\/documents\/Recall-030-2024-EXP-Product-List.pdf\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">list of products<\/a> and <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/food_label_pdf\/2024-11\/Recall-030-2024-EXP-Labels.pdf\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">their labels<\/a>. Two specifically mentioned the company\u2019s ready-to-eat chicken products.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Routine tests last month detected listeria in Yu Shang Food\u2019s products, setting off an <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/recalls-alerts\/yu-shang-food-inc--recalls-ready-eat-meat-and-poultry-products-due-possible-listeria\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">initial recall<\/a> of about 4,600 pounds of products that was announced on Nov. 9. The recall was expanded on Thursday after additional testing found listeria contamination in the company\u2019s products, officials said. An investigation is underway to determine if these listeria samples match the strain that caused the outbreak.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Ling Li, a plant manager at Yu Shang Food, said in an emailed statement on Friday night that the company had taken immediate corrective action after inspectors found listeria, and that it would work to prevent future contamination.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-2\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\"><a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/article\/listeria-food-poisoning-recall.html\" title=\"\">Listeria bacteria<\/a> are naturally found in soil but can contaminate a range of foods like <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/02\/07\/business\/cheese-listeria-outbreak-recall.html\" title=\"\">dairy products<\/a>, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/10\/20\/business\/listeria-outbreak-traced-to-colorado-cantaloupe-packing-shed.html\" title=\"\">fruits<\/a> and <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/08\/08\/us\/listeria-outbreak-third-death.html\" title=\"\">deli meats<\/a>. Most people who ingest it do not get sick, but pregnant women, older people, newborns and people with weakened immune systems can become seriously ill or die.
