Chu.<\/p>\n<p>Chu <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jonmchu\/status\/1860148996314124425\">hopped on social media this weekend<\/a> to give some very specific pointers to fans viewing the movie musical, reporting that in some of the screenings of the film he\u2019s been to, the volume has been \u201cmore like a 6.4.\u201d \u201cTell your movie theater to turn it up to a 7\u2026\u201d Chu told fans, heralding what we can only imagine will be a cavalcade of theater staff headaches in the coming days. \u201cIf you want it the way it was intended 7 is the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- inlinecontent_1 --> <\/p>\n<p>Not being either projectionists or the directors of mega-budgeted movie musicals ourselves, we don\u2019t know what scale Chu is specifically talking about here\u2014we\u2019re guessing that 7 is louder than 6.4, although this is, admittedly, only speculation. But we do have decent enough imaginations to picture a <em>lot\u00a0<\/em>of people walking up to some very tired teenagers and showing them Chu\u2019s tweet, and perhaps asking to see a picture of the dial (lever? widget?) to ensure it\u2019s cranked to the right whatever.<\/p>\n<p><!-- admarker --> <\/p>\n<p>For what it\u2019s worth, Chu got a vote of support from the Dolby sound company itself, which responded to his tweet with a salute and a \u201cwe\u2019ve got you covered.\u201d (Which, because this is the internet, was instantly disputed by multiple angry conversational partners who had found that Dolby had <em>not <\/em>had them covered.) And while we might kid around a bit about Chu unleashing the hordes, it\u2019s also undeniable that a moviegoer\u2019s <em>Wicked\u00a0<\/em>experience is going to hinge hugely on the sound balance in their individual theaters; you might be able to blast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avclub.com\/wicked-soundtrack-announcement-ariana-grande-cynthia-erivo\">the movie\u2019s soundtrack<\/a> all you want in your personal car stereo, but you don\u2019t want to get to the theater and be craning to hear Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande belt out their big numbers (especially once the inevitable chorus of theater kids start singing along, <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7ny.com\/post\/amc-theaters-warn-fans-not-sing-during-new-wicked-movie\/15568212\/\">despite theater company fiat<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><!-- inlinecontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<div class=\"grid-x articles-inline-insert\" id=\"inline-related-articles\">\n<ul class=\"articles grid-margin-x flex-container flex-dir-column\">\n<li class=\"grid-x grid-padding-x\"><a class=\"auto cell copy-container noimage\" href=\"https:\/\/www.avclub.com\/jon-m-chu-wicked-two-parts\"><b class=\"title\">Splitting <i>Wicked<\/i> into two movies was the first conversation director Jon M.
