He said in a statement that investigations into the incident were under way.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tampering with the security of the nation and attacking security personnel will be met with a firm response,&#8221; Momani told Reuters, adding that the gunman had a criminal record in drug trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>Jordanian police cordoned off an area near the heavily policed embassy after gunshots were heard, witnesses said. Two witnesses said police and ambulances rushed to the Rabiah district, where the embassy is located.<\/p>\n<div data-testid=\"paragraph-6\" class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__small__1kGq2 body__full_width__ekUdw body__small_body__2vQyf article-body__paragraph__2-BtD\">The area is a flashpoint for frequent demonstrations against Israel.
