Then watch this new doc about how this kind of thing is happening all over the world, and Farrow won\u2019t seem so dramatic when he basically advocates hucking your phone out the window.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.themoviedb.org\/movie\/1376704-buy-now-the-shopping-conspiracy\"><em><strong>Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy<\/strong><\/em><\/a><em><strong>.<\/strong> <\/em>This looks like it belongs in the legacy of <em>The Great Hack <\/em>and <em>The Social Dilemma, <\/em>which is to say, very alarming and somewhat overstated documentaries about how the world really works. But the tricks companies use to get you to keep spending money, even the obvious ones, are pretty alarming to see laid out like this.<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teenage.engineering\/store\/op-xy\/\"><strong>Teenage Engineering\u2019s OP-XY<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong> The OP-1 is still Teenage Engineering\u2019s classic and most iconic synthesizer, but this new synthesizer \/ sampler \/ sequencer looks like an even more powerful portable music maker. TE is maybe the only company that makes me wish I were a musician, just so I\u2019d have a reason to buy this.<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.themoviedb.org\/tv\/90228-dune-prophecy\"><em><strong>Dune: Prophecy<\/strong><\/em><\/a><em><strong>.<\/strong> <\/em>My obsession with all things Dune is not a secret if you\u2019ve been reading Installer for a while. So far, this super-prequel isn\u2019t exactly fizzing with action, but it\u2019s dramatic and big and I\u2019m into it.<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/24156672\/polygon-book-year-of-the-ring-pre-order\"><em><strong>Year of the Ring<\/strong><\/em><\/a><em><strong>. <\/strong><\/em>Our friends over at <em>Polygon<\/em> put together this epic tale about an epic tale: <em>Lord of the Rings<\/em>. Stories about the books, the movies, the characters, the fanfiction, and so much more. If you\u2019re a Tolkien-head, you won\u2019t want to miss this.<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eikedrescher.com\/queueapp\"><strong>Queue<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong> A perfectly minimalist iPhone podcast app, this one. You add a show, it puts new episodes in a list, you play things from the list. The more I use it, the more I wonder why any podcast app does anything else.<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.themoviedb.org\/tv\/256324-tokyo-override\"><em><strong>Tokyo Override<\/strong><\/em><\/a><em><strong>.<\/strong> Intense commentary about capitalism, fascism, AI, and the surveillance state, dressed up in a stylishly animated story about hackers riding motorcycles in futuristic Tokyo? Extremely into it.<\/em><\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B0CDWWS127?&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=vergenewsletter-20&amp;linkId=1c3a4127d0f2e5ef9d7e15412ae5edd3&amp;language=en_US&amp;ref_=as_li_ss_tl&amp;tag=theverge02-20\"><strong>The Amazon Echo Show 21<\/strong><\/a><strong>. <\/strong>I\u2019m sorry, but a 21-inch \u201csmart display\u201d is just a TV. But I think Amazon\u2019s idea with these new, bigger Echo devices \u2014 which is basically to have one giant screen as the hub of your smart home \u2014 is the right one.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/mmasnick\/one-billion-users-the-social-media-card-game\"><em><strong>One Billion Users<\/strong><\/em><\/a><em><strong>.<\/strong> <\/em>The folks at Techdirt have a surprisingly strong hit rate for fun games. I bought their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/ciagame\/\"><strong>CIA card game<\/strong><\/a> a while back and played the heck out of <a href=\"https:\/\/startuptrail.engine.is\/\"><strong>Startup Trail<\/strong><\/a>. This one\u2019s a card game about starting a social network, and it\u2019ll be a hit at my Thanksgiving one of these years.<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jvc.com\/usa\/headphones\/true-wireless-earbuds\/ha-np1t\/\"><strong>The JVC HA-NP1T \u201cNearphones\u201d<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong> Another cool-looking set of open-ear headphones, which let you hear your music and the world around you. And unlike so many others, these don\u2019t cost a fortune! A hundred bucks, in that dark green color, sounds like my kind of thing.<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/walzr.com\/IMG_0001\"><strong>IMG_0001<\/strong><\/a><strong>. <\/strong>A few weeks ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/ben-mini.github.io\/2024\/img-0416\">Ben Wallace found a trove of videos<\/a> on YouTube that had been uploaded directly from iPhones a dozen years ago or so. Riley Walz went and compiled 5 million of the videos, and they\u2019re both incredibly mundane and often weirdly intimate? You might know him as \u201cRich on Tech\u201d from the teevee if you live in LA, where he\u2019s a tech reporter for KTLA. You might also have heard his radio show \/ podcast or read <a href=\"https:\/\/richontech.tv\/\"><strong>his newsletter<\/strong><\/a>. I\u2019ve been following his work forever, and we\u2019ve crossed paths a few times at various events as we run to play with new iPhones or Pixel phones.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Like any good reporter, Rich is perpetually using a million gadgets. So I asked him to share his current homescreen and tell me a little about how it all works. I answer a lot of questions about these phones on a daily basis for my followers and talk about what you can do with them on my radio show (and podcast!), <em>Rich On Tech<\/em>. I don\u2019t put a whole lot of thought into it. Sometimes I will have my kids pick something cool for me for the season, but otherwise, my wallpaper can linger for months. I always get it from the app <a href=\"https:\/\/www.backdrops.io\/\"><strong>Backdrops<\/strong><\/a>. On Android: mostly the same, plus Samsung Voice Recorder and Voicenotes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">When it comes to my iPhone, I keep it pretty simple with just the apps that I use on a daily basis. I recently switched to <a href=\"https:\/\/music.youtube.com\/\"><strong>YouTube Music<\/strong><\/a> from Spotify because it\u2019s included in my YouTube Premium membership. I really like the supermixes that they generate. I still think Spotify is better, but YouTube Music works just fine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">I have tried every single note-taking app in the world, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notion.com\/\"><strong>Notion<\/strong><\/a> actually seems to do a majority of the stuff I like. Before that, it was Obsidian, and I liked how it was sort of self-hosted, but Notion is much easier across various devices, and it just works. I have also tried every single to-do list in the world, and once I put something on my to-do list, it\u2019s almost guaranteed it\u2019s not going to be done. There are two things I like about <a href=\"https:\/\/to-do.office.com\/tasks\/\"><strong>Microsoft To Do<\/strong><\/a>: you can start each day fresh with a fresh list just for that day, and you can attach a file to your to-do items.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">I use my email inbox as sort of my to-do list, so all articles, random notes, and websites I want to check out later go there first, and I triage when I have time.
