{"id":129736,"date":"2024-11-25T01:41:46","date_gmt":"2024-11-24T18:41:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=129736"},"modified":"2024-11-25T01:41:46","modified_gmt":"2024-11-24T18:41:46","slug":"is-the-gilt-finally-wearing-off-goop-and-golden-gwyneth-paltrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=129736","title":{"rendered":"Is the gilt finally wearing off Goop and golden Gwyneth Paltrow?\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>If\u00a0you want a $249 24-karat<a href=\"https:\/\/goop.com\/crave-tease-vibrator-ring-24k-gold\/p\/\"> gold vibrator ring<\/a>, Gwyneth Paltrow is your girl.<\/p>\n<p>If you truly need a $3,900 FireLight infrared sauna, or Kim Kardashian\u2019s favorite Lyma Laser\u2014\u2013 a steal at $2,695 \u2014 or simply must have a $28,495 Rolex, GP\u2019s got you.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s all available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/10\/23\/style\/goop-holiday-gift-guide-2024-the-wildest-presents-from-gwyneth-paltrows-list\/\">hotly-anticipated holiday list from Goop<\/a>, the company that Paltrow set up at her kitchen table back in 2008.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Paltrow\u2019s lifestyle brand Goop may be in need of reinvention, experts say. <span class=\"credit\">Todd Owyoung\/NBC via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Paltrow stands in front of a vagina-themed floral display at a Goop event in January 2020. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The company took her from Oscar winner to being one of the \u201cfirst movers\u201d in the e-commerce space, in business parlance.<\/p>\n<p>Now, however, amid <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/09\/06\/business\/gwyneth-paltrows-goop-slashing-18-of-workforce-to-focus-on-beauty-products\/\">recent layoffs<\/a> at the lifestyle brand, is the gilt off Gwyneth and, indeed, its best-smelling <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2020\/01\/11\/gwyneth-paltrow-selling-75-candle-that-smells-like-my-vagina\/\">\u201cThis Smells Like My Vagina\u201d candle<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Just after Labor Day, about 40 employees were let go at Goop, as first reported by the fashion business bible <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/beauty-industry-news\/beauty-features\/gwyneth-paltrow-goop-restructure-layoffs-1236572002\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">Women\u2019s Wear Daily<\/a>.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Among the departed was chief marketing officer Lauren Johnston, a former Google marketing executive who\u2019d been hired only eight months before.<\/p>\n<p>Adding to this, <a href=\"https:\/\/puck.news\/goop-is-having-a-midline-crisis\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">Puck <\/a>revealed this summer that Goop\u2019s affordable beauty and wellness line, Good.clean.goop, was in the \u201cbottom 15\u201d at Target. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will always be a generation of women for whom Gwyneth feels like a kooky old friend or a goddess guru whose every piece of advice they follow,\u201d Bethan Holt, fashion director at the Telegraph, told Page Six. \u201cBut that doesn\u2019t necessarily follow through as major business success any longer, even if Goop has long been a byword for the modern celebrity lifestyle empire.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The star wore Caddis reading glasses \u2014 sold on Goop \u2014 to her ski-accident civil trial in Utah in March 2023. <span class=\"credit\">POOL\/AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Still, Holt said, \u201cGwyneth herself is bigger than Goop \u2026 it\u2019s been a brilliant vehicle for her to re-brand herself beyond acting, but arguably she doesn\u2019t actually need it any longer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(Despite this, Page Six is told that Paltrow is often in the office and her daughter Apple, 20, has been an intern.)<\/p>\n<p>A well-placed fashion\u00a0branding expert added: \u201cIt\u2019s important to note that Gwyneth was the first \u2018mover\u2019 in this e-commerce space, with her newsletter and her weird products that were really based on her personality, but I\u2019m not sure what the next iteration for Gwyneth and Goop is. What she does is not that unique anymore.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Paltrow said she\u2019s headed back to acting after becoming an empty nester. Both her kids, Apple and Moses, are now at college. <span class=\"credit\">Instagram\/@gwynethpaltrow<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Part of the problem, the branding expert said, is that\u00a0\u201cPeople have copied her and it\u2019s almost impossible to retain that market share \u2014 no-one can at this point. Consumer habits have changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGwyneth stayed relevant to her customer, but now she faces the question: Does she age with her customer, or does she try to skew younger?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her executives, too, are figuring out whether it\u2019s time to move on to the potential next big thing.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Paltrow married producer Brad Falchuk in 2018. <span class=\"credit\">gwynethpaltrow\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In June 2023, Shaun Kearney left his post as chief design and merchandising officer at Goop to join Harry Styles\u2019 lifestyle brand, <a href=\"https:\/\/pleasing.com\/?srsltid=AfmBOor56u3r1Y0GFiOqqGChjm_0ngKZH277Kx07chZAHDYdZTXvfz8B\">Pleasing.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A seasoned fashion writer who has covered Goop believes that there\u2019s so much competition now among celebrity-led companies that some of them are doomed to sink.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re in a cost of living crisis and people don\u2019t have the money to spend on frivolous and cutesy stuff,\u201d the writer said. \u201cObviously, it\u2019s still Goop and it\u2019s still Gwyneth, but it\u2019s not the cash cow it used to be. I just think it\u2019s lost its pizzazz online and lost its light.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Paltrow\u2019s daughter, Apple, has been an intern at Goop. It needs to recalibrate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paltrow, 52, who has an estimated\u00a0$200 million\u00a0fortune, is still inextricably linked with her brand.<\/p>\n<p>When she stood trial for allegedly recklessly skiing into a retired optometrist last March (and <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2023\/03\/30\/gwyneth-paltrow-wins-ski-crash-trial-awarded-1-in-damages\/\">found not liable<\/a>), Paltrow turned the courtroom into a<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2023\/03\/24\/gwyneth-paltrows-courtroom-looks-what-shes-worn-during-ski-trial\/\"> showcase for Goop\u2019s quiet luxury<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The lifestyle guru made headlines with a Goop candle branded \u201cThis Smells Like My Vagina.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">GOOP X HERETIC<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She flaunted items from G.Label, her clothing range, including a sold-out $595 cardigan, as well as a $25,115 pendant from Foundrae and Caddis reading glasses, all available on the Goop website.  (Naturally, the trial has now been turned into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.criterion-theatre.co.uk\/iwishyouwell\">a musical<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Paltrow\u2019s partnership with Cond\u00e9 Nast ended after just two issues of Goop Magazine, when the publisher wanted to fact-check its articles.<\/p>\n<p>Paltrow wanted to publish interviews with non-traditional healers and practitioners, as she did on her site, telling the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/07\/25\/magazine\/big-business-gwyneth-paltrow-wellness.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">New York Times<\/a>, \u201cWe\u2019re never making statements.\u201d Elise Loehnen, Goop\u2019s former head of content, added that Goop was \u201cjust asking questions.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/25\/inside-the-elise-loehnen-gwyneth-paltrow-goop-drama\/\"> <\/a><\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Photos of Paltrow kissing Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet for their new movie, \u201cMarty Supreme,\u201d drew lots of attention online. <span class=\"credit\">GC Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Loehnen<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/25\/inside-the-elise-loehnen-gwyneth-paltrow-goop-drama\/\"> went on to quit in 2020<\/a>, then posted online revelations about the \u201cdistorted\u201d and \u201cpunishing\u201d relationship she developed to her body as a result of the \u201ctoxic\u201d cleanse culture celebrated by wellness brands like Goop.<\/p>\n<p>In its near 17-year history, Goop has often come under fire for promoting unorthodox advice.<\/p>\n<p>The site infamously published an article about a procedure called the \u201cMugworth V-Steam,\u201d which promoted steaming your vagina, claiming, \u201cIt is an energetic release \u2014 not just a steam douche \u2014 that balances female hormone levels.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Paltrow used her Goop newsletter to announce her 2018 split from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. <span class=\"credit\">Gwyneth Paltrow\/ Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But the process was widely criticized by gynecologists, who argued it could not only upset the natural pH balance of the vagina but also lead to dangerous burns.<\/p>\n<p>The site, which had originally extolled \u201cIf you\u2019re in LA, you have to do it,\u201d later changed that language to \u201cyou just might have to try it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paltrow last year sparked claims she was promoting disordered eating by boasting about her diet of intermittent fasting, bone-broth lunches and paleo dinners.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Moses Martin (above, singing) is following in his dad\u2019s footsteps and fronting his own band Dancer, which performed in NYC in October. <span class=\"credit\">Henry Ferchau\/ DANCER\/ Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She claimed the regimen was based on \u201cmy medical results and extensive testing I\u2019ve done over time\u201d then credited her doctor Will Cole with creating the diet. As The Post revealed, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/03\/23\/gwyneth-paltrows-new-guru-backs-coffee-enemas-and-cuddles\/\">Cole was not a medical doctor <\/a>but a \u201cfunctional medicine practitioner\u201d who advocates coffee enemas and cuddling.<\/p>\n<p>Paltrow, however, has remained someone to follow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoop set the blueprint for newsletters,\u201d said the fashion writer, pointing out how the actress even used Goop to announce her \u201cconscious uncoupling\u201d from ex-husband Chris Martin in 2014.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Paltrow\u2019s Goop has hosted several \u201chealth\u201d summits. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images for goop<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cShe started this whole thing for celebrity brands. Now you have everyone from Kourtney Kardashian and Poosh to Dua Lipa and Service 95, her newsletter for a younger, cooler audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Goop now has three prime revenue streams, including Goop Beauty, the cosmetics brand, and G. Label, the clothing line. There\u2019s also Goop Kitchen, a food delivery and takeout business in the LA area that recently raised $15.5 million (at a $90 million valuation) to fuel expansion from Travis Kalanick, the co-founder and former CEO of Uber, who now runs CloudKitchens, Diego Berdakin (CloudKitchens Founder) and Stanley Tang (DoorDash Co-Founder), with participation from existing goop investor Greycroft.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Revenue for Goop Beauty was up close to 42% in 2023, according to a company spokesperson, and up 20% so far this year, while revenue for G. Label is up 45% year over year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Paltrow won a Best Actress Oscar for \u201cShakespeare in Love\u201d in 1999. <span class=\"credit\">WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As Puck pointed out, the numbers are impossible to confirm without actual sales figures.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This week, Goop sources told Page Six the company was using the layoffs to restructure its organization and focus on the three verticals.<\/p>\n<p>Goop Kitchen will expand, and we\u2019re told there are no plans to sell the company, which has been valued in reports at as much as a billion dollars.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Paltrow and her kids posed with with Oprah Winfrey in May. <span class=\"credit\">Gwyneth Paltrow\/ Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As for good. clean. goop, the beauty line will continue to be sold in Target and on Amazon, where, as Puck reported that in 2023, the range did just over $1,000,000 in sales.
