The couple was booked on Friday, Nov. 22, following an investigation by the department\u2019s Central Homicide Unit and Special Victims Unit.<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. 21, deputies responded to a call of a 10-year-old boy \u201cin medical distress\u201d at a home in the 13000 block of Malibu Court, <a href=\"https:\/\/lawandcrime.com\/crime\/stone-cold-killer-man-found-with-blood-pooled-in-trunk-of-his-car-gets-life-in-prison-for-murder-of-friend-and-high-school-classmate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moreno Valley<\/a>, per an RCSO press release. Authorities found the child and rushed him to a local hospital, where he was stabilized.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"o-callout__recirculate o-callout\"\/>\n<p>\u201cSeveral hours later, the juvenile\u2019s health declined, and he was pronounced deceased at the hospital,\u201d the sheriff\u2019s office said. \u201cBased on the circumstances, the Riverside Sheriff\u2019s Central Homicide Unit was requested to respond and assumed the investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The circumstances, according to cops, included visible signs of neglect and abuse documented by SVU and the sheriff office\u2019s Central Homicide Unit. It\u2019s unclear how the couple tortured the boy.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lawandcrime.com\/crime\/adopted-13-year-old-kept-in-camper-without-electricity-forced-to-use-grocery-style-bags-as-toilet-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More from Law&amp;Crime: Adopted 13-year-old kept in camper without electricity, forced to use \u2018grocery style bags\u2019 as toilet: Police<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough the joint investigation \u2026 the juvenile\u2019s adopted parents, identified as 51-year-old Alejandra Marin and 59-year-old Juan Sanchez Moreno \u2026 were arrested for murder, torture, and child abuse,\u201d the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p>The couple was being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on Sunday without bail, according to jail records.
