earlier than May 2025&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Dream Chaser will start with resupply missions, but is meant to eventually carry crew.<\/p>\n<p>And Sierra Space, the company behind the craft, says it will make <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/history\/\">history<\/a> as &#8220;the only commercial runway capable spaceplane&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Dream Chaser spaceplane is the first-ever winged commercial spaceplane that will open shared access to space and international collaboration for all humankind,&#8221; explained Sierra Space.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The multi-mission spaceplane fleet is designed to <span id=\"92b1ef83-d682-43ea-9c06-2bca33ffdf09\" class=\"suggested-link\">transport<\/span> crew and cargo to <a href=\"https:\/\/thesun.co.uk\/topic\/space-astronomy\">low-Earth orbit<\/a> (LEO).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And can be customized for both domestic and international customers for global operations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s set to take off from the US Space Force&#8217;s Cape Canaveral launch site in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/florida\/\">Florida<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first Dream Chaser spaceplane is called Tenacity \u2013 or officially, DC-100 \u2013  and will be uncrewed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dream Chaser was selected by NASA to provide cargo delivery, return and disposal service for the International Space Station under the Commercial Resupply Service 2 (CRS-2) contract,&#8221; Sierra Space said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tenacity, the first DC-100 spaceplane, will provide a minimum of seven cargo missions to and from the space station.<\/p>\n<div experiments.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also a second cargo version of the Dream Chaser under construction called DC-102, or Reverence.<\/p>\n<p>This will be followed by an upgraded version of the spaceplane called DC-200.<\/p>\n<p>Sierra Space explains: &#8220;This crewed spaceplane will carry crew to and from the space station and other low-Earth orbit destinations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div between three and seven crewmembers.<\/p>\n<p>But the bulk of the early flights will be Tenacity, which has at least three contracted cargo resupply missions for Nasa lined up.<\/p>\n<p>There will be Space<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The craft is around 30 feet long, and has &#8220;gentle 1.5G runway landings&#8221;, which Sierra Space says is &#8220;ideal for fragile cargo&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>That could include science experiments, which need to be returned safely \u2013 or the results could be ruined.<\/p>\n<p>The spaceplane will be launched on top of a rocket \u2013 the Vulcan Centaur \u2013 and then return to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/earth\/\">Earth<\/a>, landing on a runway like an airplane.<\/p>\n<p>Nasa has already been working with
