His comments <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JuliannaFrieman\/status\/1860987433023598975\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">were posted in a clip on X.<\/a><\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>MSNBC weekend anchor Jonathan Capehart said he was \u201cconflicted\u201d over the cabinet confirmed, he would be the highest ranking out LGBT person ever to serve \u2014 to be appointed and confirmed by the United States Senate,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cAnd I\u2019m kind of conflicted about this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jon Reinish, a Democratic strategist who was a guest on Capehart\u2019s panel, said: \u201cIn that case, credit where it\u2019s due\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reinish correctly predicted that the stock market would \u201cshoot up\u201d once they opened in reaction to the news of Bessent\u2019s nomination, adding: \u201cWall Street likes the guy.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter our team that made that historic nomination,\u201d Reinish said.<\/p>\n<p>Capehart, who <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/01\/07\/news\/msnbc-host-grows-emotional-draws-tissue-on-jan-6-riot-anniversary\/\">once shed tears on the air<\/a> while discussing the events at the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, is the latest name on a roster of MSNBC stars who <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/23\/media\/msnbc-contributor-trashes-network-morning-joe-colleagues-over-trump-meeting\/\">have struggled to cope with Trump\u2019s crushing victory<\/a> over Vice President Kamala Harris in the Nov. 5 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMorning Joe\u201d co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/18\/us-news\/msnbc-staffers-slam-morning-joe-co-hosts-after-mar-a-lago-summit-with-trump\/\">traveled to Mar-a-Lago to meet with Trump in person<\/a> despite telling their viewers that the Republican was a \u201cfascist\u201d who posed a danger to the republic.<\/p>\n<p>Brzezinski <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/25\/media\/msnbc-morning-joe-co-host-mika-brzezinski-leaves-x-after-meeting-with-trump\/\">last week announced that she was leaving X<\/a>, the social media platform owned by prominent Trump backer Elon Musk, in favor of Bluesky, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/14\/business\/x-rival-bluesky-gains-1-25m-users-in-week-after-donald-trump-win\/\">which has seen an influx of left-leaning internet users<\/a> who have fled the platform formerly known as Twitter. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>MSNBC \u201cMorning Joe\u201d co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski last week said they met Trump at Mar-a-Lago. <span class=\"credit\">MSNBC<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied more than 300 points on Monday and the S&amp;P 500 hit a new all-time high as investors cheered Bessent\u2019s nomination.<\/p>\n<p>At its peak, the Dow was up more than 500 points before paring back gains.<\/p>\n<p>Bessent, the founder of Key Square Group, rose to become money manager for billionaire financier George Soros.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am most pleased to nominate Scott Bessent to serve as the 79th Secretary of the Treasury of the United States,\u201d Trump wrote in his announcement, <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/113529294640959784\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">posted on Truth Social<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Trump\u2019s decision to nominate Bessent was cheered by investors on Wall Street on Economic Strategists,\u201d the president-elect said of this Treasury pick.<\/p>\n<p>Bessent, the 62-year-old founder of Key Square Group, has repeatedly backed the president-elect\u2019s pro-tariff stance in a series of op-eds and media appearances over the past year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScott\u2019s story is that of the American Dream,\u201d Trump said Friday, noting that Bessent \u201chas long been a strong advocate of the America First Agenda.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The nomination of Bessent ended a bitter, behind-the-scenes race that saw fierce jockeying among Wall Street power players <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/19\/us-news\/trump-to-pick-transition-team-co-chair-howard-lutnick-for-commerce-secretary-source\/\">including Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick<\/a> and Apollo Global Management chief Marc Rowan.<\/p>\n<p>Lutnick, who co-chairs the Trump transition team and was thought to be the front-runner for the Treasury Secretary job, was named Commerce
