Owens as Ms. Owens, 35, stood outside the door of Ms. Lorincz\u2019s home in Ocala, a city about 80 miles northwest of Orlando, last June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Ms. Lorincz, who was convicted of manslaughter by an all-white jury in August, had faced a maximum sentence of 30 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">At the sentencing hearing on Monday, in Ocala, Fla., the victim\u2019s mother, Pamela Dias, spoke of her four grandchildren. \u201cSusan took away their vibrant, young mother,\u201d she said, reading from an impact statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cSusan Lorincz shot their mother through a locked metal door.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Ms. Lorincz, who had not testified during her trial, stood after several witnesses spoke in her defense. Wearing a yellow jail jumpsuit, she spoke at length of her health issues, including a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder linked to childhood sex abuse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Then she apologized to Ms. Owens\u2019s family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cI am so sorry I took A.J.\u2019s life.
