He posted on X\/Twitter: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Even though Tesla is the only company who manufactures their EVs in California! This is insane.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Tesla moved its headquarters from California to Texas in 2021, and Musk said this year that SpaceX and X will make the same move.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p>Trump has repeatedly said that he would eliminate the $7,500 EV tax credit for new vehicles and $4,000 for used vehicles created by the Biden administration\u2019s Inflation Reduction Act if he won the election.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Newsom today proposed creating a new version of the state\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=04aaf84409&amp;e=cf6d94251c\"><strong>Clean Vehicle Rebate Program<\/strong><\/a>, which launched in 2010 and was phased out in 2023. California started with a $5,000 rebate for EVs and increased to $7,500. During its lifetime, the Clean Vehicle Rebate Program funded more than 594,000 vehicles and saved more than 456 million gallons of fuel.<\/p>\n<p>Newsom\u2019s announcement says that funding for the state EV tax rebates could come from the \u201cGreenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, which is funded by polluters under the state\u2019s cap-and-trade program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Newsom said in a statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>We will intervene if the Trump administration eliminates the federal tax credit, doubling down on our commitment to clean air and green jobs in California. <\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re not turning back on a clean transportation future \u2013 we\u2019re going to make it more affordable for people to drive vehicles that don\u2019t pollute.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Newsom\u2019s announcement didn\u2019t say how the rebates would work, but he\u2019s expected to share more details during an appearance today.
