{"id":130627,"date":"2024-11-27T10:45:11","date_gmt":"2024-11-27T03:45:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=130627"},"modified":"2024-11-27T10:45:11","modified_gmt":"2024-11-27T03:45:11","slug":"wendy-williams-is-permanently-incapacitated-by-dementia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=130627","title":{"rendered":"Wendy Williams is &#8216;permanently incapacitated&#8217; by dementia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-element=\"story-body\" data-subscriber-content=\"\">\n<p>When Lifetime released its contentious \u201cWhere Is Wendy Williams?\u201d docuseries earlier this year, the cable channel credited Williams as an executive producer on the project.<\/p>\n<p>But at the time of the documentary\u2019s production, the former talk show host \u2014 who last year was <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/story\/2024-02-22\/wendy-williams-diagnosed-aphasia-frontotemporal-dementia\">diagnosed with early-onset dementia and aphasia<\/a> \u2014 did not even \u201chave the capacity to consent to being filmed,\u201d her guardian Sabrina Morrissey said in a complaint filed in New York County Supreme Court. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs is patently obvious from the very first few minutes of the Program itself,\u201d Morrissey said in her September complaint, Williams \u201cwas highly vulnerable and clearly incapable of consenting to being filmed, much less humiliated and exploited.\u201d Last month, the case was moved to federal court.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint asks that the defendants pay Williams unspecified compensatory and punitive damages and asks the court to order the defendants to permanently stop airing the show. <\/p>\n<p>The defendants in the case \u2014 Lifetime parent company A&amp;E Television Networks, Lifetime Entertainment Services, EOne Productions, Creature Films and the doc\u2019s executive producer Mark Ford \u2014 this month filed counterclaims against Morrissey. <\/p>\n<p>Representatives for A&amp;E, Lifetime, Creature Films and Ford did not reply immediately Tuesday to The Times\u2019 request for comment. <\/p>\n<p>Presented in four episodes, \u201cWhere Is Wendy Williams?\u201d was <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/tv\/story\/2024-02-02\/wendy-williams-resurfaces-lifetime-documentary-debuting-this-month\"><u>billed as a \u201craw and compelling documentary\u201d<\/u><\/a> that followed the media personality\u2019s life after \u201cThe Wendy Williams Show\u201d was canceled in February 2022. The cancellation came as Williams\u2019 physical and mental health worsened. Filming on the doc began in August 2022, shortly after Williams was placed under financial guardianship, and stopped in April 2023 \u201cdue to her poor health,\u201d according to court documents reviewed by The Times.<\/p>\n<p>A month later, Morrissey said in her filing, Williams was diagnosed with frontotemporal lobe dementia and primary progressive aphasia \u2014 both debilitating neurodegenerative diseases that cause problems with behavior and language, per the <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nia.nih.gov\/health\/frontotemporal-disorders\/what-are-frontotemporal-disorders-causes-symptoms-and-treatment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>National Institute on Aging<\/u><\/a> \u2014 which have since left her \u201ccognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Williams\u2019 diagnosis, Morrissey continued, she \u201creasonably assumed that the project was defunct, given that no contract was ever finalized and that [Williams] was obviously not working on a podcast or focusing on her career at that time.\u201d The complaint said Williams may have signed an \u201con-camera talent agreement\u201d after filming had already begun, but Morrissey called such an agreement invalid because of Williams\u2019 incapacity \u2014 and because it was never shared with her guardian or the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompletely shocked and horrified\u201d when the documentary\u2019s trailer dropped Feb. 2, Morrissey said she attempted to halt its release, but an appellate judge denied <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/tv\/story\/2024-02-23\/wendy-williams-guardian-sues-lifetime-ae-networks-documentary\"><u>her restraining order request<\/u><\/a> as impermissible prior restraint. <\/p>\n<p>Nowhere in his ruling did the judge \u201caddress the merits of the Guardian\u2019s assertion that [Williams] lacked capacity to consent,\u201d Morrissey said in her recent filing, adding that despite their knowledge of Williams\u2019 diagnoses, the defendants \u201cshamelessly doubled down on their scheme to profit from the footage they had wrongfully captured.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey did so despite their full awareness that the Program depicted a severely disabled woman who was not in control of her behavior and who had lost the ability to make conscious and informed decisions throughout the Filming,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Morrissey said in her filing that while Lifetime has \u201cprofited immensely\u201d from the production, Williams herself was paid \u201ca paltry $82,000.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Upon the documentary\u2019s release in February, executive producer Mark Ford told <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/tv\/story\/2024-02-27\/wendy-williams-documentary-lifetime-producers-interview\"><u>The Times<\/u><\/a> that the crew \u201cnever would have entered into the project if we knew that Wendy had dementia,\u201d adding, \u201cThe project was signed off by her guardian, her attorneys or managers, her publicist, herself and then, ultimately, her family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe deeper we got into it, honestly, it became more of a concern [about] what would happen to Wendy if we stopped filming than if we continued,\u201d Ford said. \u201cWe also knew that we had the power to never air it.
