In other words, per this theory, galaxies aren&#8217;t expected to have a preferred alignment. So, researchers think, the observed galaxies with oddly cohesive dynamics may be better explained by a different form of dark matter, called warm dark matter (WDM).<\/p>\n<aside class=\"hawk-nest\" data-block-type=\"embed\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\"\/>\n<p>The newfound galaxy group consists of at least five members in an isolated pocket of the universe about 117 million light-years from <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\"><u>Earth<\/u><\/a>. Chiefly, the distances to the individual galaxies are unknown, preventing the team from constructing a 3D picture of the galaxies&#8217; positions in <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24870-what-is-space.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24870-what-is-space.html\"><u>space<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"slice-container-newsletterForm-articleInbodyContent-sVShYg3Qgfo9H5yyYd6bE4\" class=\"slice-container newsletter-inbodyContent-slice newsletterForm-articleInbodyContent-sVShYg3Qgfo9H5yyYd6bE4 slice-container-newsletterForm\">\n<div data-hydrate=\"true\" class=\"newsletter-form__wrapper newsletter-form__wrapper--inbodyContent\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form__container\">\n<section class=\"newsletter-form__top-bar\"\/>\n<section class=\"newsletter-form__main-section\">\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The scenario that currently offers a better explanation for these observed phenomena is that of warm dark matter, a hypothetical form of dark matter whose particles differ from cold dark matter when it comes to mass, speed, and, most importantly, how they clump together in the early universe.<\/p>\n<p>WDM particles, such as <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/what-are-neutrinos#section-are-neutrinos-dark-matter\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/what-are-neutrinos#section-are-neutrinos-dark-matter\"><u>sterile neutrinos<\/u><\/a>, do not clump as efficiently as CDM particles, which would favor the formation of galaxies from the same cloud of gas. As a result, these galaxies would be more closely synchronized in both position and motion, leading to the coherent dynamics observed in this study, said Paudel.<\/p>\n<p>While the WDM theory is increasingly being considered as an alternative to CDM, WDM candidates remain theoretical.
