They should not have to forgo this opportunity while waiting for a more thoughtful and better system that serves all athletes.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm41l984y000v356mwhu331rd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            CNN has reached out to Boise State and SJSU for comment. Neither the player in question nor SJSU have commented publicly on the player\u2019s gender, and CNN is not naming the player since she has previously refused to comment through a university official.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm41l984y000w356maadme6ye@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Wyoming, Utah State, Nevada and Southern Utah have also canceled games against SJSU this season, per the Associated Press (AP). The five teams all canceled their games against San Jose State apparently because of rumors that SJSU has a transgender player on their team. The topic was widely discussed by political figures throughout the recent campaigning season.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm41l984y000x356mdsaz9kzy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            According to documents filed in federal court, the controversy began last spring amid the rumors about the Spartans player.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm41l984y000y356moaxq2p0h@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The situation escalated in early November when another San Jose State player, Brooke Slusser, and players from two other schools in the Mountain West Conference filed suit to prevent the allegedly trans player from competing.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm41l984y000z356mxccrtcb1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            On Monday, however, a federal judge in Denver ruled that the player was allowed to compete and a federal appeals court upheld the decision the following day.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm41l984y0010356mvjl4q8qy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Republican governors from <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GovernorLittle\/status\/1839779336259608817\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Idaho<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JosephMLombardo\/status\/1846325181675082146\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nevada<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GovCox\/status\/1841671214802338139\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Utah<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GovernorGordon\/status\/1841234858468917535\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wyoming<\/a> have publicly supported women\u2019s volleyball teams for withdrawing from games against SJSU, citing a need for \u201cfairness\u201d<strong> <\/strong>in women\u2019s sports.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm41l984y0011356mvbius86u@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But Mountain West Conference Commissioner Gloria Nevarez has said that the student at the center of the controversy \u201cmeets the eligibility standard (to compete in women\u2019s collegiate sports),\u201d telling the AP last month: \u201cIt breaks my heart because they\u2019re human beings, young people, student-athletes on both sides of this issue that are getting a lot of national negative attention. It just doesn\u2019t feel right to me.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm41l984y0012356ms56533zl@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Ahead of the recent US election, president-elect Donald Trump told a FOX News town hall of a volleyball match he was watching: \u201cI saw the slam, it was a slam.
