{"id":131555,"date":"2024-11-29T22:39:24","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T15:39:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=131555"},"modified":"2024-11-29T22:39:24","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T15:39:24","slug":"theres-something-very-strange-about-our-galaxy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=131555","title":{"rendered":"There&#8217;s Something Very Strange About Our Galaxy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2 class=\"block pb-1 text-3xl leading-none uppercase border-b lg:hidden xs:text-4xl font-k lg:text-5 border-red\">The Milky Way stands out like a sore thumb.<\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"font-k text-4 font-black  lg:border-b border-gray-900 pb-1\">Galactic Outlier<\/h2>\n<p>Researchers have found that there&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2024-11-milky-outlier-similar-galaxies-universe.html\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">something highly unusual<\/a> about the Milky Way that sets it apart from galaxies which, on a surface level, appear similar.<\/p>\n<p>As detailed in <a href=\"https:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.3847\/1538-4357\/ad64c4\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">three<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.3847\/1538-4357\/ad61e7\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">recent<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.3847\/1538-4357\/ad7f4c\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">papers<\/a> published in <i>The Astrophysical Journal,<\/i> a team of researchers examined a mountain of data as part of the Satellites Around Galactic Analogs (SAGA) survey, which was dedicated to comparing the Milky Way to 101 other galaxies that are similar in mass.<\/p>\n<p>The distinction is technical but significant, the researchers say: they found that the Milky Way has surprisingly few smaller satellite galaxies compared to its peers \u2014 and some of them have mysteriously stopped forming new stars.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now we have a puzzle,&#8221; said Stanford astrophysics professor Risa Wechsler, who cofounded SAGA and coauthored all three papers, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2024-11-milky-outlier-similar-galaxies-universe.html\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">statement<\/a>. &#8220;What in the Milky Way caused these small, lower-mass satellites to have their star formation quenched?&#8221;<strong><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"font-k text-4 font-black  lg:border-b border-gray-900 pb-1\">Satellite Activity<\/h2>\n<p>The findings suggest our galaxy&#8217;s evolutionary history is strikingly different, setting it apart from all the others \u2014 research that could also force scientists to reexamine how we understand the formation of galaxies.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our results show that we cannot constrain models of galaxy formation just to the Milky Way,&#8221; said Wechsler. &#8220;We have to look at that full distribution of similar galaxies across the universe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At the core of the researchers&#8217; findings is <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/tags\/dark-matter\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">dark matter<\/a>, the mysterious substance that scientists believe makes up 85 percent of the matter in the universe, but has yet to be directly observed.
