Scopolamine patches may\u00a0inhibit nausea and vomiting<em> <\/em>from<em> <\/em>motion sickness, anesthesia or surgery, and birth control patches are intended to prevent pregnancy.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Some fans of vitamin patches report they have trouble swallowing pills, can\u2019t remember to take pills or suffer digestive issues when they take pills. <span class=\"credit\">gballgiggs \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/31302845\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">Research studies on vitamin patches<\/a> have produced <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC9813629\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">conflicting results<\/a>, with <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC8318979\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">a 2021 scientific review<\/a> of the patches noting that some micronutrients cannot permeate the skin in adequate quantities.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cTo enhance efficacy, patches are often placed in strategic areas where venous areas are condensed, such as the inner wrist, so they can be absorbed faster,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uk.linkedin.com\/in\/marisol-saavedra-346033150\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dr. Marisol Saavedra, <\/a>an aesthetics doctor in London and co-founder of IV therapy company Tonic, explained to Marie Claire.<\/p>\n<p>Some consumers simply aren\u2019t convinced. While one TikTok user <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@vanessakahlon\/video\/7099532524027645226\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">called her B12 patches \u201cwonderful,\u201d<\/a> a functional medicine expert described his patch experience as a \u201cnightmare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on my micronutrient test, which I did before and after trying the patch, I did not show any change,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liquivida.com\/about\/executive-team\/samael-tejada-president\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sam Tejada<\/a>, CEO and founder of Liquivida Wellness Center, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/vitamin-patches-8745217\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">told Verywell Health this month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe patch utilizes an adhesive that can be extremely toxic to the skin, and you can potentially absorb those toxins,\u201d he continued, without revealing the patch type and brand he tried. \u201cI had a very bad reaction and had to seek medical treatment from a local dermatologist, ending up with what is called\u00a0contact dermatitis.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Many Americans don\u2019t get enough vitamin D. A dietary supplement must be orally ingested; it can\u2019t be absorbed through the skin,\u201d Jeff Ventura, CRN vice president of communications, told Verywell Health. \u201cThe FDA certainly has authority to regulate drugs.
