According to Mastercard, online sales were up 14.6% from last year. Despite warm weather lasting longer into the fall, apparel was popular with online shoppers.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm45nrnkz000k3b6maco9glyj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Mastercard said there was an increase in grocery spending during the two weeks leading up to Black Friday and people were spending big at restaurants the day after Thanksgiving.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44ioc4u000g3b6m1omuo4f6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            According to Adobe Analytics, online shoppers <a href=\"https:\/\/business.adobe.com\/resources\/holiday-shopping-report.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spent $10.8 billion on Friday<\/a> compared to $9.8 billion in 2023. Shoppers set a record this week by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/11\/29\/business\/record-thanksgiving-online-shopping\/index.html\">spending $6.1 billion<\/a> on Thanksgiving Day.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44idm9i00083b6mdiyhx9v8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Adobe expects Cyber Monday to be the year\u2019s biggest shopping day, though. It estimated shoppers will spend a record $13.2 billion, up 6.1% year-over-year.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44j0ide000l3b6m3s7mehe0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Shopify, an e-commerce site, reported that it set a new record for its Black Friday sales, which reached $5 billion globally. The average cart price for US shoppers was about $157, with many looking for products like t-shirts, skincare and vitamins.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44ilupi000b3b6mwnolyohh@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The National Retail Federation estimated in October that Americans would spend <a href=\"https:\/\/nrf.com\/media-center\/press-releases\/2024-holiday-spending-expected-reach-new-record\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$902 per person<\/a> on gifts, food, decorations and other items during the holiday season \u2014 $25 per person more than last year and $16 more than the record set in 2019 \u2014 but economists didn\u2019t expect this week to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/11\/26\/economy\/us-holiday-shopping-preview\/index.html\">be anything out of the ordinary<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44ja8rf000o3b6mbbodrph9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The NRF estimated that shoppers would spend $261 on food, candy and decorations and other holiday items.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm45mlzrq00003b6m7sk612js@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Mastercard said jewelry, electronics and apparel were the top purchases on Black Friday, with consumers taking advantage of big discounts.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44jhwk1000r3b6mynm0znkx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But great deals don\u2019t always mean high quality. Flora Bagenal, producer of Netflix\u2019s \u201cBuy Now!\u201d documentary, told CNN\u2019s Fredricka Whitfield on Saturday that these electronics, toys and clothes are mass-produced and eventually thrown out by consumers.
