New York City could see a few flakes fly but it won&#8217;t amount to much accumulation, according to the FOX Forecast Center.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><strong>ERIE, Pa. <\/strong>\u2013 A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/winter-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winter weather<\/a> event known as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/what-is-an-alberta-clipper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alberta Clipper<\/a> will descend from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/canada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canada<\/a> later this week and roll across the northern tier, potentially bringing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/snow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">snow<\/a> to at least 12 states from the Dakotas to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/new-england\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New England<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">This week\u2019s snowmaker is caused by a weather system known as an Alberta Clipper, a fast-moving area of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/why-is-atmospheric-pressure-so-important-to-the-forecast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">low pressure<\/a> that originates from Alberta, Canada. The weather event is set to begin on Wednesday when the clipper system tracks down into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/north-dakota\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Dakota<\/a> before zooming across the Great Lakes and into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/northeast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northeast<\/a> by Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">According to the FOX Forecast Center, the Alberta Clipper will bring a wide swath of snow, with several inches possible in areas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/lake-effect-snow-buffalo-watertown-cleveland-great-lakes-arctic-blast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">already inundated with lake-effect snow<\/a>, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/new-york\/buffalo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Buffalo<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/new-york\/syracuse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Syracuse<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/ohio\/cleveland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cleveland<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/ohio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/Clipper%20Snow%20QPF.png\"\/><fig-caption>Alberta Clipper snow potential through Thursday.<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/fig-caption><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/lake-effect-snow-science-explainer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lake-effect snow<\/a> that you&#8217;re looking at right here, that&#8217;s what we call mesoscale meteorology, something that&#8217;s happening on a small scale like the size of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/thunderstorms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thunderstorm<\/a> or lake-effect snow band,&#8221; FOX Weather Meteorologist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/person\/s\/ari-sarsalari\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ari Sarsalari<\/a> said. &#8220;What we have coming through a little bit later on this week is actually a bigger storm system. It&#8217;s a fast-mover. It&#8217;s not going to be very strong, but it&#8217;s a clipper, and it means that it&#8217;s going to dump snow over a pretty large area.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/lake-effect-snow-watch-new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>PARALYZING GREAT LAKES SNOWSTORM PRODUCES RARE THUNDERSNOW, WATERSPOUTS<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/pennsylvania\/erie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Erie<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/pennsylvania\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pennsylvania<\/a>, is forecast to see continued lake-effect snow through Tuesday before the clipper system potentially brings a few more inches on Wednesday and Thursday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"featured featured-video video-ct\">\n<div class=\"video-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"info\">\n<div class=\"caption\">\n<p class=\"sub-text\">A video shared by FOX Weather Exclusive Storm Tracker Brandon Copic shows crews hard at work trying to clear snow from US 20 in Fairview, Pennsylvania, on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Snow is also possible as far east as the Interstate 95 corridor of the Northeast, but it is too early to forecast just how much.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Strong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/wind\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winds<\/a> associated with the low-pressure system will make temperatures feel even colder with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/what-does-wind-chill-mean\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wind chill<\/a>. Wind gusts up to 30 mph are possible in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/minnesota\/minneapolis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minneapolis<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/wisconsin\/green-bay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green Bay<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/illinois\/chicago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chicago<\/a>, Cleveland and Buffalo on Wednesday and Thursday.<\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/Clipper%20Wind%20Forecast.png\"\/><fig-caption>Wind gust forecast for the Great Lakes on Thursday.<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/fig-caption><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 data-v-4e81e892=\"\">Will New York City see snow?<\/h2>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The forecast details will become clearer as the event gets closer on Wednesday, but the system is expected to drop snow from the Dakotas to New England. The high temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday will be in the lower 40s.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;We know the clippers are moisture-starved to begin with. Cold air is much denser. It&#8217;s drier. And so it takes a lot for a clipper to bring snow to New York City.
